Just got back from Cooktown kited every day for 11 days . The wind blew non stop 24hrs .On arrival 3 days to warm up on, solid 25-30 knots . Then the remainder were 18-22. Warm water/ weather camped near the water what more could you ask for, awesome trip, here are some pics

Considering only places with relatively easy access, Cooktown is without doubt the consistently windiest place in the country in the winter months, much better wind than the rest of NQ and its generally north of the rain that plagues the Cairns / Port Douglas area.
As long as you avoid the toothy handbags, it's all good!

One of the locals from Port Douglas, Evan dropped in on the last 2 days and had just done a trip to Cape Bowen. This is above Cooktown and very inaccessible via a rugged 4wd track.
He said there is 8kms beach where you can do a flat water run. On the first day there doing a long run he came across a monster croc just 10m away. He estimated it 5-6m in length, "something out of a Spielberg movie". He went straight back to the beach shaking and did'nt go out for another 2 days. He did go back to look for it but no sign of it. Not a good spot to learn!
yeah boy! There are plenty of them across the top of Australia now, from Townsville to Broome. Big powerful predator, you need to give them plenty of respect. I have a feeling a kite would startle them a bit, but someone splashing in the water....they'd be onto that really quick.
Saw this one in the Mitchell River, Kimberley, last month, was about 3.5m long. Amazing animals to see up close!
I wouldnt worry about crocs. Like everybody else on the water, they dont like kiters.

This time last year in Broome we were being shown over a beautiful boat from Tassie which was in port. i noticed something out of the corner of my eye, thinking it would be funny to wind up the tassie crew about crocs being around, pointed out the floating log. I followed it in our boat after reporting it to DEC, it made it all the way to Cable Beach. its not uncommon. He was only a little fella

The boys definitely got onto some good fish, mackies, goldies, and JB hooked a big barra right when the Postcards film crew were rolling the camera at the Regent. Check it out on Win TV, it should be coming up soon.
(Yeah Barge, not disputing crocs are found south of Townsville, was more suggesting they are in greater numbers across the top, places like the gulf, NT and Kimberley).
