No we are making a concerted effort to cover all locations -

We have 2 great spreads from a new photographer Paul Smyth - who shot 2 locations in WA plus another Double page of Nicky Rudd from a night shoot near shark bay
plus the making of RYLAND's new movie Broken Water - which is 6 pages - plus heaps of Party pics from Kitestock in our return of Better Days -
Plus the still ripping rider and the young gromet spread are both WA riders
So at least 11 pages from WA -

Just so you know the content is driven primarily by pro active kiters - and pro active brands who go out and work to get great shots to offer us to run - quite simply that is how it works

Those people that sit on their arses and expect a photographer to magically appear and make them famous might be waiting for a long time

I also need to add that we do reject quite a lot of photos because the pics simply dont cut from a quality of image or from a riding perspective

We give all our brands equal opportunity to provide us with news, images, and stories ..... it is just that some riders and some brands know the value in doing the work to get us material.

So if you are rider that wants some coverage - line yourself up a good photographer and get some shots - or do a trip that has some appeal - or do a HOW TO Sequence

We are already gathering material for our next issue.

I hope that demystifies how we get our content.

cheers

I will look into why this is happening - the mags get shipped form the printer direct to the subscribers - at the same time as the bundles go to the shops and newsagents - I think the Aust post process maybe the issue - I agree the subscribers should be getting it first - See if we can fix that up - thanks for the heads up

Bruce and KBM team, awesome choice of front cover shot!

Big thank you to the event photographer Rob Webb from Sydney who traveled up for the rail jam and worked tirelessly all event! I am so stoked on the cover, I was really hoping we had a shot worthy from any of the commited riders who did the night shoot, can't wait to see the mag for real and the other photo's from the event. The night shoot was definatley worth the effort at 2am!

I am working on a little vid to go with the issues release highlighting the passion and great attitudes from all the riders who made the trek to Mackay, I will put a drop on seabreeze shortly!

I have a small criticism and can't find a better thread for it.

I've picked up the last 4 or so issues of KBM and I like it. Lots of local stuff and the photography is usually stellar. One thing that has bothered me is the use of the word "Review". Usually, in magazines review means an actual first hand account of your opinions on something. The bar review for example was informative and everything but no real opinions or as ridden experiances. It was mostly just a point form look at the features of each, not rating how anyone actually found them to use.

I'll be interested to see what is in the harness review. I can (and admittedly do) read the company blurb on nearly every board, kite, wetsuit, and harness for myself. What i want is to hear how a rider found a board, or whatever else in certain conditions. I know that logistically that is a huge effort to do for say a "2010 surf board review" but that is what I expect.

Keep up the good work and continually improving. Looking forward to the next issue.

To make sure I have this clear in my mind.....

If a company gives you shots and writes up a story, you will run it. (if its up to standard) But you wont pay for those shots or articles?

Nice business plan. Get the content for free, package it up and sell to the masses...I like it.

You know Kite mag does the same, but their mag is free!

Hey I totally agree that a review show be written stating what the pros and cons are of a product however if we did that then it would be the opinion of one or two riders - just because we, the testers, don't like something doesn't mean it is a bad product - For eg I hate lots of kites because they don't feel the same as what I am used to .....therefore it makes it unfair to rate a product because of that. So based on that, what we have decided to do is to educate the buyer by giving some good information and tips to help their selection and then present the products based a similar set of features and let the reader evaluate what would work for them.
You also need to understand that if we "wrote off" a product that company may not be all that enthusiastic to advertise with us.
I know its not a perfect solution to the Review issue - but I just wanted to let you know why we choose to lay it out that way.
cheers Bruce

Nice one Jake, killing it!

I do remember all of us doing that on the wall at some point hahah!

Once the mag is out and all the photos have been sorted etc, I will add a few here and put the rest onto my website for people to view and can download etc!

The vid is coming together, won't be anything great but it does showcase the atmosphere and the awesome attitudes of riders etc!

Just to clarify a couple things for you
We do have a limited budget to pay for articles and photos - and we do so in every issue

We also get articles and photos for no cost as well and this is great because helps riders and brands get exposure
Please remember that the kiting industry is really still in its infancy and the KBM does not have an endless budget to pay for every shot and every word published
When the sport is better supported like surfing I am sure this will change

If you are really unhappy about this then maybe I should pull the full page shot of you we are about to run in this issue!!!!!! - let me know fast I have the final proof to do on Tuesday.

Thanks
Bruce KBM

KBM had a really good kite review a few years ago. Named the reviewers, their background, and riding style. Every kite was rated out of 10 on a number of factors (wakestyle, relaunch, turning speed, bar, etc, etc) and given a total amount of points. It was actually really helpful. Should do that again for sure
