Sick,

What kite does he ride? How can the kites keep up with surfers at that speed. My kite is definitley not for kite-surfing. How does the kite keep tension in the lines when travelling toward it- do u need to go out on really high wind days/small kites?

from the first screen it Looks like it could be a 2010 Naish Helix. WTF, Wave kite>?

It is a Helix 2010, maybe 2011?? Definitely a helix though, Pat is sponsored by naish. I'm sure a rider like Pat could ride any kite and make it look good, but in saying that the smaller helix's work ok as wave kites for sure.
The board is an Underground Pohutu 5'8" square tail quad fin as seen here

Patrick uses a National Panasonic food processor to do his hair.

he is one sick rider ye Patrick. Love his flow and style. IA is another one of me faves to watch...

before I knew who he was (Pat)...on the 2010 kitestock epic downwinder I was actually riding just in front of him in the line-up, but once I realised the show he was providing I let him in front and watched him from there. Inspiring rider...his backside airs are sweeeet!

there is no 2011 helix, so it is a 2010 helix. And of course they work in the waves its made by naish. the 2010 helix is sweet in the surf especially when u take the 4m extensions off and ride on 20m lines

There's footage of both the 5'8" thruster and 5'10" quad in there.
Magnets in his booties I reckon.

Thanks for clearing that up, I was sure he was riding the thruster in some of the sequences.

That is the best wave riding I have seen to date. Pat blows up in a big way. Love to see more of this style of riding. WOW!

Steve - Nice riding - but please fix your add, the younger generation are confused enough already.

this is not a "pintail thruster"

Any shops in Perth stock these boards?

Not sure what I can do Dr Gonzo, thats the pics and text supplied to us by Underground. The board with the blue graphics has a much narrower tail than the graphics suggest, but I agree its not a traditional "pin" shape is it?

Wishing you much fear and loathing for Christmas!

EDIT :

Underground have updated their website, we will do the same asap.

Stuff like that happens at Kitestock.
Don't think Pat can make it this year, but he says he is fairly certain that we will be coming to WA in early 2011!!

Yo guys thanks for the Comments, you guys are awesome!
I can't wait to come back to WA, such a chill spot, with alot of open coast. Next time going with a 4x4 for sure with some Aussie buds.

To answer some questions, about kites:
First it does help a lot and enables you to have alot more fun in the waves if you have the right kite. Lots of kites "fly fine" but wont perform in a variety conditions. That being said surfing is 90% wave judgment, timing and kite knowledge. I have tried alot of the kites on the market, and most kites don't don't realy turn, flow and drift properly for waves but you can make them work.
The kites i was using in the film were the 2010 Helix, which is my favorite wave kite i have ever had. For me it is smoother and packs more snap than any other kite for the waves. I have 7m 9m and 12m and find that all work really well. I have some of my best wave sessions on my 12m, "most of this video is on a 12m helix..." because it is so lightweight and turns well it doesn't get in the way like most big kites, and it enables me to kite when the surf is the best, "not blown out". Still my 7m is the best, i even used it as a sleeping bag in WA when i didn't have any blankets and was sleeping in the dirt up north, sweaty but warm!
Also i think a huge reason i like the kite so much is the Bar, because it is extremely light weight, with nothing on it. there is a long throw center line that is flexible and allows you to open up your upper body and surf the wave like you would with no bar.

About the boards, its not your fault about the confusion. Underground did not put up the actual outlines until recently, they were just photo shop files scaled up!Now they should be updated. The 5'10 "orange one" is the one i helped design, to work well for driving bottom turns and it is a quad and is very different to all the other boards in the line.
The board i rode in the film was a my prototype 5'10 quad(white), one shot on an old thruster 6'1, and the rest on the production PR pro 5'10 quad model, its sweet.

Let me know if you have any other questions.
hope to catch ya soon in WA, just need to get off school!

Wow I never knew Pat slept with his kites.
I knew he liked them and he is a bit weird but thats taking it to a new level LOL.

Our website is fixed, we have the new shoe graphic for the pintail, thanks for pointing the error out Gonzo
