Race 2 saw a mixed bag of conditions with light to moderate winds varying through the day and during the racing which made things interesting.
besides richie on the raceboard everyone else is slowly finding their feet, chris argent managed a 3rd on a raceboard and is out pointing everyone upwind!
Front guys richie, marine and ric are hard to catch and are so consistant in their racing that they seem almost un touchable in the strong wind.
ian and kate feild are also up there pushing the husband wife rivalry (looser does the washing up for the next week?)
the rear of the pack are definately catching up to the front guys slowly, with strong starting performances by jonathon steel.
i took some video footage with the Gopro and got some kite carnage, bit it fogged during the first race. ill wait till after the next race to post some more vid stuff.
drop down to take a look next event we could all use some cheering from the beach to try and knock off the top 3 guys :)
Dont suppose you got a video of me having to give way to a 30foot power boat driven by two guys who think a power boat has right of way over sail.
A bit scary of the start line and you looking at the point end of a boat being driven by two guys who are looking straight at you in a dumb way, you kinda get the feeling they are thinking "why is this sailing craft still going to try and cross our path" [}:)]
Would luv to have the rego number
As I yelled a few choice words (two words actually the second word was idiots) their reply was "what man were in a power boat"
Yeah it was a busy day, Alex Harrison-Smith was run over by a jet ski, yep those tools trying to blast each other in the middle of the course. Please make an effort to remember their rego, no rego and we cannot do anything.
Next races I'll be patrolling the race area on the ski, to help protect the kiters rights and safety. The guys fishing on the groins are a damn hassle too, they climb past a huge sign saying keep off then abuse the kiters and even deliberately cast their lines into the path of kiters. Grrr....
Please report any jet ski incidents to the Maritime Authority asap.
If all the incidences had been reported over the last 10yrs, then Jet skis would have been banned in Botany Bay by now.
I was at Botany on Saturday (not racing unfortunately), bit further up from Ramsgate. I saw several instances of knobs on aqua-hairdryers delibaretly trying to intimidate kiters on the water. One group of about 4-5 knobs ploughed straight thru in formation (loosely speaking), thru several kiters courses in pretty damn close proximity.
I didn't realise jetski's had rego's- I'll keep an eye out in future.
As for the fishermen, maybe I'll get to try my hook knife some day...
As for jet ski'ers deliberately being a nuisance. I've seen kiters lower their kites to water level and ride around a bit. It gives a clear message. Personally, I'd never do that or endorse such practice.
i knew that alex had a close call with a jetskier but you as well ric with boat is nuts, get the memories in practice for regurgitating the rego's to Ev on the beach and lets get rid of these guys.
Next Race is tomorrow, forecast is for lighter winds. I will have some big Ozone and Cabrinha kites and race boards.
Usual set up time, first race is scheduled to start at 2.30, anyone interested in racing should be there by 2.00pm to register and get your gear sorted.
rssults from the weekend?!
we have got some pics of the jetskiers that caused the problems and they have gone to a guy who can get them zoomed in hopefully clear enough to get rego #'s.
one shot is very clear how close to the kiters they were coming.
I sent pictures and rego numbers to the water police before and they spent over one month tracking down the offenders and then dealing with them - more than $1000 in fines. They rang me a number of times to update me on progress. Worth doing - but rego number is essential.
Just to add to the story te other day about all te jet skiers. I did write an incident report to the NSW maritime but have not heard back from them. The jet skiers conduct that day was truly appalling. Despite being told their was a regatta on they still rode between riders. Props to north 2012 surfboard for being tougher than a L_ _ and his ski.
Is the kite racing scheduled to be starting up again this Sat 13th Jan (nothing written in the kitesurfing events section)?
looking forward to the next race, i hear there has been training going on and technology bought.
ric, marine and richie look out there is apparently serious competition out for your blood!
no training from my side i have been super lazy, looks like my mid field finishes could start to slide :(
be good too see some new comers give you guys a nudge so it actually looks possible to beat the holy trinity

yesterdays race was interesting and i feel i can re cap it best after trailing all day!
a tough easterly with some south in it made for challenging conditions, the wind ranged from 10-18knots and was swinging around.
the course was a strange setup with a short upwind leg and then a long unpwind leg that could be made with a short tack and then a long beat upwind, then a dead down wind run to finish the triangle.
unfortunately top gun ric was MIA, a changing of the gaurd saw jordan (also known as 40m line guy) and chris dominating, seems like some training and equipment for the day got them through. ever consistant richie was allways up there but these two guys seemed to have it over everyone which should make the points table interesting. john was doing very well for riding a twin tip, most of the racers decided to opt for the raceboard.
not much action for the spectators yesterday with sand castle building or laughing at bike riders outfits giving better entertainment! hopefully next race will deliver some better wind.
Hey guys,
Good to see you getting some good course racing down there. We had Ric, Dave, Shane and a few others join us at Marmong on Saturday and enjoyed catching up with them and seeing how high Dave could point on a twin-tip.
Just noticed you have a race scheduled for 18th Feb. Any chance of moving this date? As WindsurfingNSW has a formula regatta scheduled at Ramsgate that whole weekend and it could get really busy on the water with all you guys + 30 formula sailors.

Cheers.
Lets just all have one big race kites, windsurfers, raceboards, surfboards and twin tips should be interesting.
true Jordan,
won't be wiggling round a 10 this time. May see a SUP board too. Hopefully the forcast improves.
