Anyone tell me what province / area of Canada affords the best kiting. Wife wants to go there on exchange. Doh.

It that one of those scemes where you swap wives and end up with a big fat bogun who's had 10 kids, or with a smoking hot nympho,

Stuff kiting live in the hills and go snowboarding, a powder day is better than kiting

Yeh I have been snow boarding before, but I still rather kite than snowboard. Too bloody cold for me which begs the question, gonna be colder kiting

You will stay much warmer snowboarding than kiting!

But a sunny day with fresh snow and a good day of kiting do the same thing for me.

Ocean Rodeo rule in nth America.
Maybe pick yourself up a local priced bargain while ur there???
The new Razor is such an exciting kite. One test & Im sold. 1st thing ever to make me think of replacing my love of deltas. The Razor is such a fun, boosting machine.
Totally blew me away with its boosting credentials - 20' (at least) off a very careful, 1st try, load & pop from a gentle 11:00 to 12:30.
Cant wait to put it through its paces without the caution I applied at Kitestock.
This just has to be a standout as a free-ride/booster/allrounder.
More test time will deliver more results for other disciplines - eg down-the-line drift?? for surfing; pulling to the front for upwind etc. etc.
Gear Reviews coming asap from testers way more qualified that little-ol-me.
This is definitely the kite that will get me off my love of deltas - finally.

Yeh the two days I went snowboarding it was blowing a 30 knot gale so my views are totally tainted. My bro went over again last year fine blue skies and he just loved it. Yeh what about snow kiting?

Vancouver is the best place to be. Squamish has great kiting and even have someone with a seadoo that will come and get you if you break something out in the water or the wind dies (for a small fee). Also as the others say great mountain biking an snowboarding and just a beautiful place. Lots and lots of rain however.

The east coast has kiting, do not know much about it but saw some on a roadtrip.

I think the east coast water may warm up a bit in summer, but the winter is way colder there and no snowboarding, that said you can do the obvious and go to Mexico for kiting.

As far as snowboarding goes blue skies and fresh snow is like cross on wind and waves, not everyday but worth every second if it. Days with nothing but ice, cloud fog and wind are more like mowing the lawn in 14 knots on a kite that really needs 16 knots. Yeah you are out on your board but you would trade ten days of that for one good day!

But it's better than nothing.

If you want to shovel snow and scrape windshields (windscreens) every morning for winter. Plug your block heaater in so the engine will start in the morning then go for the east coast. Vancouver will mostly be rain which as we like to say at least you don't have to shovel it!

Hey Eppo, I'm from Toronto and I know there is kiting in the area but I hear it's only 10 to 15 knots in the summer. If you go far east to Newfoundland and nova Scotia you'll get the best wind there. St. John's has more wind than Perth (but terrible weather). Safe bet is BC, plenty to do in the out doors. Typed this on my cell phone, fingers are sore, signing off!

much colder on the east coast.. Vancouver is the warmest of all the cities - hence the large number of homeless in Van

Lived in Van for a couple of years - good memories, great place to be into the outdoor lifestyle. People are really cool, might just be cos they're all stoned half the time on bc buds

Hi eppo,
Lived in Canada (east coast Nova Scotia) for two years although didn't kite. Has some of the best secluded waves in Canada IMO and it's bloody windy from memory. Would need a serious steamer/drysuit. I got in contact with a guy who kites all the time and has a couple nice flat water spots. PM if you want to know more - i've got an email adress for him and his got a couple videos on youtube I can link you to. You won't regret going to Canada, would be second pick behind Australia to live. Great people and loads to do. I'm heading over October if you're keen to tee up for a session.

Depends what you want in a city. Vancouver is the best big city, Victoria is the best small city. Both are on the coast of BC. Victoria is a pretty good spot to kite. Depending on your skill level you can kite basically right in town. A couple hours drive from Victoria is Nitinat Lake which has awesome kiting in the summer. It has some of the smoothest and most consistent wind in North America. Camping right on the lake surrounded by coastal forest - beautiful!

Lived on Vancouver Island for a number of years prior to moving to Perth and in most parts of Canada (in another life). You can get the best of outdoor living/kiting/skiing etc aroung the Comox Valley area which includes Courtney and Campbell River on the North East side of Vancouver Island. www.google.com.au:443/maps?hl=en&tab=wl You will definitely need a drysuit and you should check the Ocean Rodeo site for the best ones available. Wherever you kite on Vancouver Island (except lakes) you will get an introduction to tidal currents, rugged beaches and seriously large logs floating around.
I would highly recommend living in. BC with sidetrip out to Calgary for the stampede (July). If you can afford it, fly out to Montreal and check out french canadian culture....they really know how to party.
I'm positive you will enjoy your time in Canada.
