Recently, I spent some time in Canberra and while driving around one day noticed a couple of locals kiting the eastern basin of Lake Burly Griffin. Over the next few days I got to know these guys and found them really helpful and friendly. They even offered me use of their gear if I wanted to have a go. Most days, the wind comes in at about 15-20 knots and the lake has several launching areas, mostly on grass. Once again, guys, it was a pleasure to meet you, and I intend coming back there, and bring my gear!

PS In a previous post I couldn't upload photos, but found that the problem was with IE7 service pack 3, so I downloaded Safari, and guess what?! Problem solved!!

Damn I'm moving to Canberra!!! I can't imagine a better place to kite than an artificial lake filled with carp and storm water. Now all I need to do is sell my house near the beach, my boat and surf boards and I'm off to chilly, boring Canberra which happens to be home to a surprisingly high number of WA%!ERS.

Sorry, I used to live there and still have issues with the place.

Just a small correction to your post.

Most days the wind does NOT come in at 15-20kts. I think you must have seen a particularly favourable weather pattern. I grew up there and I'd say most days it is lucky to break 5kts.

Good on ya for getting out there anyway!

Cheers.
