HI everyone,

I am about to embark on a two month internship in Shanghai.
Now I can't go without taking my kite gear.

There is limited amount of info on kiting Shanghai -except the winds are really light. (Average 11 knots annually!)

I would love to hear if anyone has any advice or experience Kiting in China!

Cheers

personally i would not want to kitesurf in any chinese waters , especially near shanghai . You could try your luck in the east china sea but with the amount of boat traffic and the less than favourable water quality i would give it a pass .

There has got to be somewhere that you can kite. There was some post on seabreeze about something in China about a year ago I think.

It wont be great but give it a go.

Hey Miss T

I was working in Shanghai August to October last year. Your post reminded me so much of myself asking those question.

I don't want to disappoint you but leave your kiting gear at home. There is no wind, there is just brown water and no other kiters in Shanghai. If you really want to go somewhere kiting, you need to hop on a train or plane to go to Xiamen ( south, 2h plane) or Qingdao (north-east, Shandong Province, 1.5h by plane)

Enjoy the time you have there visiting places in and around Shanghai. You will not even have time to think about kiting! Time flies as you are located in a city that never sleeps. You will experience an awesome city. It is huge....you can drive for 1 hour on a highway and you are still in Shanghai. And there are that many great places around Shanghai. Don't miss them. I traveled afterwards one month throughout China and there was no place where I would have wanted to go kiting. I couldn't make it to Hainan Island which is supposed to be nice but as I said, there is much better places in the world to go kiting but China!

You will enjoy the kiting a lot more when you come back into clean water and greater wind

If you need any sightseeing tips let me know. I am heading to Alva Beach on Saturday ... for kiting

Second that ^^

I have kited and surfed a few times in China.
To start with wind is average.
If there is wind in summer it is a typhoon or in winter its freezing Siberian offshore winds..
The place is too populated and the water is super dirty with mega junk. I found a variety of hospital sharps on the beach I was kiting at. Some sharps still had hoses attached

But do eat ducks bill, chicken feet and scallops
Don't order chilli food. Its a whole different level of hotness.
