Does anyone ever kite on the lake in a westerly? Is there a good spot to launch and land? From previous experience I know the tide needs to be pretty high unless you want your fins clipping the rocks.

I used to live in Kiama, Done a lot of sailing on the lake.
Westerlies were always fun and fairly solid after their run down the mountain.

Reckon your best bet for a launch would be somewhere near the yacht clubs or over near the caravan park, saying that I aint been their in 10 yrs.

Have fun, Chris.

at primbee. there's a grassy area. conditions are butter smooth shallow water and wind is gusty. having someone to catch your kite when landing is better. If you stuff up a self land you might end up in the carpark or powerlines. not a good idea to teach your mate there. wind speed goes from 15k to 40kts every now and then but what else would you expect from a westerly.

Gday 79boarder as pfr said we launch at primbee across the lake from the yacht club. Very dodgy launch area, much safer with others to help launch and land kites . Very flat water for 3 kms . Here is a vid of the place taken a couple of years ago. Quality isnt real good but it will give you some idea of it

There will be a few of us there tomorrow
Cheers Gerry

PS I dont think there is any sound to it sorry

the lake stinks

the water is inches deep and the squishy mud is a few feet thick

get that stinky mud on you or your gear and you won't get rid of the stink for ages, if ever....

the lake can be good for high speed runs on super smooth water

but its not worth the stink

Havent seen ya kite anywhere but Warilla for 3 mths of the year doc . If others want to try the lake let them judge it for themselves. Beats trollin seabreeze forums for 9mths

probably because you're only allowed kite warilla for three months of the year, then you spend the rest of your time complaining about the stinky lake

the lake stinks, you say so yourself

Even thought about just getting a jet ski then just heading down the local beach for westerly. Always seems a waist driving past the beach in a westerly and seeing it super smooth. i guess if there was no wind could use it to just tow people aswell.

Why doesn't anyone kite at Gerroa during a westerly cause the wind is cross shore, I've never seen anyone there in a westerly? Park out the front of the Pie shop and you have about a 1km area before the bay swings around to the rocks.

its hard for unhooking and trying new tricks out there. the gusts hit your kite hard and sometimes feels like your arms are being ripped out of their sockets. A lot of the time your powered up for a jump and then the wind stops, then other times you jump and a gust hits taking you higher than what you expected. its pretty frustrating when the wind is dead onshore but if you get it in a ssw its cross shore the place is more consistent but it loses the glassed up water. When you see it you'll want to go out, you might have a good sess, or a really bad one.
The doc's right about the smell. it smells like a punani that's been dancing all night
