I kept on going after a trip to Perth and went kitesurfing at lancelin last friday.
You guys have got some clean wind up there! I had a great session, nice consistent wind .
We might get more swell down south , but the gusty or light winds drive you bonkers!
What's with the "special " take off area for the windsurfers? Did some of the local kiters give all those European windsurfers a scare?

Ha! If you go through the windsurf zone and he's not a happy chappy you might meet him face to face.

If you have a good look at the area in question it makes absolute sense that lauching and landing of kites should be prohibited. Trees, beach shelters, sunbathers, families, little kids, gusty wind, Werner's van, leaners on windsurfers, fences, bollards etc. etc.

No dramas if you just go the 200-300 metres up to the point...

What a pathetic depiction of a kiter

Yeah, nah I use a door instead of an actual kite when I'm in Lancelin...

Hey wasn't Werner being charged over this incident?

Does anyone know the outcome? I personally can't believe he's still operating.

Yeah they put that in for a good reason alright!
You go up there in the peak of summer and trust me there are so many windsurfers in that tiny little park that launching there will be the last thought on your mind...
The two points on either side of the bay are your best bet.

Has the guy ever knifed a kite?
From reading that previous thread again, it sounds like he needs a nice kick in the head.Ive kited at lano, and i think it is just common sense not to lauch on the grass. Sure inflate kite there. But its much easy to drive onto the point, plenty of room incase of an accidident.
If he is aggressive tell him to **** OFF. People like that stand down when possible resistance is shown. Its their way of life, they act all tough, pick fights, but when it comes to business they are pathetic.
Next time i might keep a nice pouch of rocks, would do wonders to his sail. (i think, would a rock go through a sail???) , maybe sharp rocks[}:)][}:)]

simply dont rig or launch or land on the grassed park area, be mindfull of other public in the park and near the beach at the park. other than that tell him to get stuffed

we have a video of a confrontation with the guy in question, got to get it on utube,

I always rig on the grassed area, its where the showers are for when you've finished your session. Still carry my kite to the point to launch, but all the PUBLIC facilities are in the park, so I use them
While in Lano' I've never been approached about my behavior on land, but been heckled many times on the water, mainly at "Hole in the wall", mainly by windsurfers

Supersane,

Myself and the other guy involved in the incident at Lancelin last year lodged complaints with the council, police and even to the coast guard. From what I understand the council had just renewed his license to operate at the time so felt like they couldn't do too much. The case went to the local court following the police reports only a few months back I think but still am yet to hear what the outcome was.

Both the council and the police acknowledged he is always causing trouble yet it seems still nothing has been done. Not enough people report the incidents that have happened, so for those who head up to Lano and get any grief from him be sure to follow up and report it. There's no reason why we can't all share the water up there bearing in mind a few local rules and common sense!

Hmmm,
Time to put on my diplomat hat.
In the time before kites (BK) the spot you are talking about was a barren bit of scrub with just the toilet block.
Through the efforts of Werner and other Lancelin entrepeneurs the place has been developed into what it is now.
So try and understand the reason he thinks he owns it. It wouldn't be there if not for his efforts.

I do not condone or support any acts of aggression. In fact I was told off by Werner many years ago for parking my car on the beach too close to his school crap.

There are heaps of alternatives in the area , Back beach, Wedge Island, South passage, Lancelin Island etc. There's no reason you can't kite in the main break anyway(besides the *&@% Euros everywhere) you just can't use what is only about 500sq/m.

So thats a bit of info for you before someone goes all Uncle Chop Chop on Werners arse.

There is no conflict between Windsurfing and Kiting, just misunderstandings between individuals engaged in their respective activities

Stay safe, keep smiling

pfft, if was a secluded point yet still only 200m away from the road with out sun bakers and motor bikes ripping through it, it would be even better.
the fact werner has made a business there doesnt mean that he owns the point.

Yeah - the motor bikes are tad unenvironmental but the svedish sunbakers dont usually pose too much of a problem.
Cept when they pose too far away

First time I went to Lanos in 1984 he was already there on the beach, on his own, hiring out cats and original windsurfers.he had already been there for a while back then. Partly due to people like him, Lancelin became a mecca for watersports, love him or loath him he is allowed to make some rules.

The guy is a legend. In the true sense of the word with the myth out weighing the facts.

Hope I am still into water sports at his age. Surfed, kited and windsurfed there for 30 years up here never had a run in with him. He has caught my kite for me on numerous occasions, oh but that is in the middle of winter when there are no blow ins up here.

Truth be known the kite antics over the years have been really bad around the precious 500sqm. Look at me I can jump, oops! I would not want to be running a business there.

If you are out of the congested area you will not have a problem with werner but boshie I cannot vouch for, he is scary.

No I do not condone his actions but can we put this one to rest please, file your court actions and get over it.

Post was about how good the wind is, but it is not really check lano graph on this site so please don't come back.(note - Sarcasm for you thin skinned kiters out there, yes the lowest form I know - tone would say bite me but I don't want to stoop)

Lancelin is just like euro beaches, maui, coronations etc with kite free zones. It does make sense seeing the lack of skill and care for any other beach user some (thin skinned note SOME not ALL) kiter's demonstrate.

Cheers Andrew

No worries fellas. I haven't personally been on the end of a bit of Werner. I realise that he may have put in a bit of effort in setting up his business (and I am enjoying the pre 84 stories Whippingboy) but at the end of the day he is profiting from his efforts and I'm sure Lancelin would have 'happened' anyway. I.E. if it wasn't going to be an angry landlocked Swiss-German frusrated with Lake Geneva, it would have been a chilled out Dutch fella, or an easy on the eye Sweedish sunbather or a petrolhead bogan from Balga trying to be a 'Crusty DoD'.

I'm sure there are idiots up there on kites which are being a bit of a menace and not following the guidelines set out by 'locals' BUT he has been witnessed assulting / endangering people who were following the local guidelines.

Because he was there pre 84:
- does make him a good person to provide input in getting appropriate rules put in place to make the water and beach safer for everyone;
- does not give Werner to carry on like a Werner and assult people engaged in watersports; and
- does not mean he's above the law.

We are all blow ins.

I haven't sail main break for years because of the crowds

Lancelin memories

There used to be a spotting tower on the beach. You could climb up and get a great view of the whole lagoon I think it was set up by the fishing club ?

Some smarty on a Dirt bike rode over all the rigs on the beach and disappeared into the distance [}:)]

Parked on the beach and a hot euro chick decided to put her towel on the bonett of the old Hi-lux to do some sun bathing The mate who was with me still talks about it 16 years later.

Took another mate up there to show of my skills, just as I entered the water a fin appeared coming straight for me, I dropped everything and bolted back to dry land
Turned around to see a dolphin. My mate was in hysterics. He gave me carving of a dolphin for Xmas after that one.
