Hi Guys,
Update from Cocos-
just wanted to let you know its been blowing a pretty consistant 18-25kn and perfect ESE winds for the last 4 days, 25-28 degree air temp, probably about 20+ degree water temp, I hurt all over from 4-6 hours a day on the water, not to mention how my head feels with the G&T with fresh limes going down a wee bit too easy on the veranda in lunch breaks and 'after work'.
Looking at a fully supported West to Home Island and back again adventure across the lagoon on Thursday- should be fun!
Hope you are all having fun back home, we are very jealous of your 2 Degree overnight temps.
Love to you all,
Nic
PS photos to follow soon!
PPS no nasty responses will be accepted.
Thats fine, Hally and i are aching from our 3hr session on Saturday. I think we may have caught a chill.
Man we got jipped! Just got back from Cocos - out of 10 days had 4x no wind, 1x sh1tty squally 15-25 knots, 4x 12-15 knots, 1x 14-18 knots. Talked to the weather guy on the Island and he said that we were stuck between 2 high systems that give the easterly trades :o(
Anyway, lucky I took my big boy 16m otherwise would have only had 2 sessions...
Gee thanks for that Nic.
I am sure I recall you saying you wouldn't have much internet or phone access over there.
Now step away from the computer you've got work to do apparently, I will be checking up when you get back, lets see i think you should have back rolls and front rolls dialed, maybe even a bit of unhooking so get to it.
Hi Nic, sounds like typical Cocos to me and that not much has changed. Am very envious of you all and wish I was there. Hopefully 2 weeks in Tonga will partially make up for it but I don't think it could ever top all the great times on Cocos. Will be there again next year 4 sure. Enjoy and say hi to everyone 4 me.
Hi Nik,
Nice one, rub it in. I've taken a week off before starting my new job and guess what - no wind!!
Enjoy it and send some pics off to show what we are missing out of and to give us a good idea what the Cocos Islands got to offer.
Enjoy,
Rich

No piccis as yet, figuring out the camera, prob in a few days time.

Hi Guys, well, finally figured out some new technology, and here are some piccis from the last few days, enjoy
BTW wind has dropped off today, you will be very pleased to hear no doubt, thus the time to spend in the telecentre to post this!
See you when you get here (I heard today the flights have now gone over $2K ).
Thats not a rolex, it looks like a wolex. I got mine while i was in bali, Nice watches.
pics look great, Keep em coming. We need a buck up on the main land.
G'Day Knickers
How are you finding the current in the lagoon? Was up there a few weeks ago, nice spot no doubt, but deffers wouldn't rate it as a kite spot and think we have much better spots on our doorstep in WA.
Don't rate it cos...
1. the current usually hangs around the 4km mark.
2. the tides. There is always a 2-3+ hour period on low tide when you can't do alot. Pretty frustrating.
3. and was pretty gusty, but that may have been because we were there at the start of the season.
Just my opinion, and not to say there weren't any good things about cocos as a spot to kite, but I guess when you are paying $$ to go kite somewhere, you want it to be better than what you have on your doorstep. There weren't many kiters around when we were up there, so would love to hear how you are finding the current and all the rest.
National Jet is it, closed shop so the price is high. It's essentially a domestic flight out of the international airport in Perth
r u still there.
just not fair.
sydney feels like melbourne today. and the wind is blowing hard but the wrong way and you are still rubbing it in.
i would tooo
I thought mike would have learnt a new trick by now.
Oh well, we all can't expect to progress onto new things.
bali, kited 19 days out of 23 days surf & flat water sometimes from 9am in the morning only had to have 1 surf the whole time it was like aussie kill aussie f cking wrong ,mates went to uluwatu 89 blokes out in 3 foot said it was a **** fight.
any one need a driver over there ring (ary, 081 338 591 749 ) will take you any where for 300,000rp -$37.50aust +petrol oppox $10aust for 10 hours in near new van, have been using him for the past 3 years top guy will pump up your kite and run your lines. He lives Kuta side and will even collect you from the airport if needed, he was Taj Burrows, Luke Steadman & Tom Whittikars driver over there this year. He knows where to kite Sanur side also canngu ,medewi ,balian. Highly recommend he is a top bloke and trustworthy, he picked up our 15 year old son Brodie and took him to meet Taj, he also gave Brode a Tshirt signed by Taj and his cap he wore at the comp. Also his wife Made makes the best cakes we have had, he has 3 young kids (my wife always has the little girl Cinta 3 1/2 for a day when over there) really great family, we spend a lot of time with them. Ary speaks really good english too. Any probs & he will sort them out for you. When you phone him just tell him that Phil, Tracey and Brodie said to ring and he will look after you, he will also do day tours to elephant parks, temples etc, wherever you want to go its not a problem.
