Drove by and saw this. I love the way it meanders through the rigging up area. Allows tourists to get close up and personal with our lines.

Edit: I have just emailed Subi asking for clarification.

if they move the light and the sign then it isn't that bad . Keeps the cyclists etc further back from the wall . I don't think it's that bad

Could be good as long as we all continue to stand in the water when launching/landing the kites on the seawall or the small beach infront of it. But if one idiot decides to stand on the wall and have his kite launched or landed from just right of the new path and a kiddie on a bike gets wrapped up in his lines ...
Hopefully the old signs now in the middle of the grassed area will be moved totally out of the way.

I think it's way better than where the path was before. (see dirt trail near the retaining wall)
Now you can rig up on the water side of the path.
Before you had to negotiate cyclists and walkers from set up area to launch area
There is the same amount of area to set up, still limited when busy....

So just walk further out to get a launch off the wall...?

Peli is only worth kiting if you're a local eh? Not a great spot really.

I went along that road down behind UWA to that reception centre along there for a wedding in January, I was stunned at the ****ty little patches of grass you guys have to squeeze onto to launch and land.

Yes, it has its very REAL problems; crowded sometimes, kite-eating trees, tight launch spot, gusty, weed in spring and the ever-patrolling bird watchers shouting "You there! Go away! Go away!". The new path could be the best thing that's ever happened to the place. However, if you live or work near the city and have limited time because of family or work commitments, like many I know, then it's the only option to get away from screaming kids, pestering clients and grumpy bosses. But it's also interesting popping back once in a while to the place where many learnt, before realising that just 10 minutes down Stirling Hwy are beaches where the water and wind are both clean.

My opinion is that City of Subiaco has done something positive and has tried to come up with a system that separated the kiting community and the walker/cyclist. We would all like to have 3 acres of grassed area for set up and launch but we have to live with whats there. The next 20 knot seabreeze will tell how it works
