Dolls Point , Quibray Bay and Towra delivered perfect wind for the BIG AIR challenge on Botany Bay today. Massive air was achieved by a number of jumpers but without doubt Moritz took the trophy with the biggest jumps ever seen on the Bay. Estimating the height of a jump is always difficult but all who observed the jumpoff would have to agree that the winning jump by Moritz had to be close to 40 feet from the flat water .... awesome jump with a magic landing .... not even the GALAH could match that one.
And on another tack ... ...as mentioned by Moritz in an earlier post ... Friday at Dolls saw a number of kiters enjoy beer and pizza after another enjoyable NE kiting session. Thanks to the Southern Sydney Kiteboard Club secretary ..Cliff ... alias " The Hoff " for running around and organizing the feed and grog. Many more such sessions will take place as we grow the Club.

And thanks to Charls " The South African White Pointer " for his photography today .... Once we get ourselves organised for regular meeting nights we can entertain ourselves with some of the " movies " made by Charls and some of the other blokes who are regularly seen with their tripods set up on the beach.

AND the " WELL DONE " award of the day goes to Simon " One Pump " for his spectacular retrieval of Jonesy's Bow kite as it hurtled unattached in 30knots , down the river towards Caringbah - excellent job One Pump ... Marty also shares in the award for his very flash capture of a runnaway Bow kite that also had its sight set on a visit to the far reaches of the Georges River ...... what is it with these Bow kites .... they just don't want to stay attached to their drivers . anyway lads it was great to see the mateship spirit of the Bay Kiters.

Bloody good day of kiting
cheers

I couldn't agree more with Col. Moritz was pulling some huge airs. The peanut gallery was WELL entertained. Charl aka 'Kaffa boy' did a great job with ocean filming.

I am looking foward to see what the new week will bring us at Dolls.

Jason.

Sorry Sean but the contest only got real this afternoon whilst we were on the water when the wind switched on big time. I stopped taking my mobile out on the water with me when the last one sunk to the depths somewhere north of the last groyne at Kurnell so I couldn't ring anyone

cheers col

excuses , excuses.. but it is good to see that things are starting to happen in a club like sense. Keep it up and don't retire to the gallery just yet, talk to you later in the week.

No chance of me retiring mate. I've still got some life in me yet. Besides that , I'm allergic to peanuts .... give me a choc coated cashew any day

I think the Club is really going to kick on this year now that we are registered. What about coming down to one of the meetings once we get things going. You could demonstrate your new PREDATOR straps and give us a talk about kiting on the Bay in the early days seeing that you,Tex and Ray were the pioneers . I think that a lot of folks would be interested in hearing about your days of two line flying and the stuff the three of you got up to. Hey , you might even give a talk about teaching that bloke who pointed in the opposite direction when you asked him which way the wind was blowing. You remember him don't you .... the choker ... Remember your favourite saying to him .... " Don't choke the kite. Don't choke the f...en kite ". He was definitely the worst student you ever had .... it would give everyone a laugh .... but you don't have to mention his name ... you can keep that one a secret

ps. I noticed today that that bloke is still a choker.

Hey Col who exactly was at this comp. It sound more like a jump off between you and Moritz. Where was Rich. Was any of the Kurrnel crew there

Rich and the Kurnell crew weren't there. Rich went to Wanda and the Kurnell crew stayed local. But we had probably 40 kiters + between Dolls and Towra.

Col tried to get the Kurnell crew to join the jumping fest while we were up at Quibray Bay, but none of them came down... Maybe next time.

It would be great to have Rich come around. He jumps massive.

Definitely like the idea of a movie night. When we get back from WA we will have a truck load of footage. Myles will be honing his skills and camera-shy Matt will not escape the lens. Cheers

Great vid!

Super big jumps!

Where is this spot?

It looks great, these guys are doing huge jumps and landing like 2 metres from the waters edge !

Most places that I go to are trying to bring in some b ullsh1t rules about not doing tricks or jumps too close to the shoreline,to prevent incidents and bans etc.Its good to find a spot where this does not apply. I'm coming over there !

Yeah,with two contestants.

Get in their way and they give you "the finger" !!!!

Great club over there. Bunch of elitist locals !

Really tolerant of outsiders."Who were those other guys out there?"

Big Hero gave one of them the finger ! Hoo-fkn-ray!

Great Video Charl, well done
Yes there were other contenders.....they just didn't jump high enough... Big effort to CJP to hold down a 14m in 30+ knts and still manage to hold an edge.

Obviously someone didn't jump high enough to make the cut, yes the locals are quite open to outsiders, but a fool is a fool no matter where they are!! Cheer up, fliping the bird now and again just keeps people honest!!!! All in all a good bit of fun for a saturday afternoon..

40 feet?? ..... 30+ knots??.... PLEASE!!!
Aren't you guys the ones trying to bring some order to the sh@t fight at Dolls? What a great example you set. Do as I say, not as I do. That works really well.

No, that item was sold out because your mother and your sister bought the whole stock over the Christmas period.

Maybe you can put a word in for us with them in case they are willing to share :)

But since they are related to you, they are probably some greedy [moderated] that don't like to share....

Charles, great vid. Have you seen the forecast for this weekend. I think a second round of big jumps is on. We could do it at Wanda and get the extra hight by hitting some wave ramps...

Let's get something organised....

Moritz,
If you want to hold any kind of competition that you are going to make official by talking up on the internet, then you need to approach waterways, the council and the clubbies and get the permits. I am sure the people at the NSW windsurfing clubs can tell you how.

If you don't do it properly you may cause some real problems for the rest of us. After the number of people seen kiting through the flags at Wanda lately and dropping kites that then drift through the flags I really can't recommend that anyone push their luck with the clubbies any more.

Doing these little competitions away from crowded beaches would probably be the best idea for everyone.

I'm not talking about any oficial competition. Just a bunch of kiters jumping. There are no judges (other than the peanut gallery). Thanks for the advice, I'll contact a waterways the day I want to organise a real comp.

Now with regards to Wanda, **** like that doesn't help anyone. Have you done your job and approached the kiters you saw and explained to them that this was not going to help kitesurfing at Wanda in the long run or are you just one of those guys that just complains online but doesn't pull the finger out of your arse to improve things :)
