Caught this on the tele tonight.
I think to claim a world record it now has to be in a certain depth of water.
Never been to Sandy point, but there is a good chance the windward hull/float in in very shallow water.
But this is a really great achievement considering I think they are achieving these speeds in sub 20knts or close to it.

thanks for posting this.
The close up of the crew is interesting: not a position I would want to be in at 50kts!

I have a feeling that that is file footage of an earlier day as I was there yesterday and don't recall a kite anywhere.

'They' call that sailing?

Kite surfing is way more sailing than that!

'They' should ratify the kite record if 'they' ratify that!

Yep. That was definitely NOT footage from yesterday. There was more wind, the sun was almost setting and there were no kite surfers for miles...........

So the obvious question is, "how fast did it go?"

You call that a sail!

Sails move, are made from material that you can fold or roll up, you know, like a kite......

That's good, glad to hear that, rightly so.

Got to keep the rivalry between the affordable kites and windsurfers and the athletes that ride them, not some geeks in a pod looking at their laptops!

I think they actually call it a aerofoil.

But some people still have a problem with all these different forms of sailing.
A bit like holden v ford really or a citroen.

All the people that use or invent these things all share the common idea of using the wind to get somewhere.

At the end of the day they all use the wind and are bound by the same rules mother nature dishes out.

Would captain cook have been worried about the death of the square rigger, I think not.
Even the builders of these old boats were always looking at ways to go faster and used all the technology, skill and brains they had on the day to do so.

This is a win for human inovation and hard work.
The rest of us are mearly riding on the back of someone elses idea
