G'day folks,

Wondering what the deal is with mixing kite brands and bar and lines brands? Apart from the obvious compatible systems (4 lines) and matching pigtails for steering lines and front / bridle lines, what else is there to consider?
Can I grab a Slingshot V1 / V1.1 bar and lines and go pick out a Core kite? North Kite? F-One etc?
Does it matter? Can I just grab a set of conversion pigtails for those kites with reversed knot positions?
Or is it more nuanced than that? Are there more important things to consider?

Looking forward to hearing your insights.

Cheers

Probably the most frequently asked question on kite forums. A quick search in this forum would reveal a lot of information.

This guy does a great job at explaining and comparing High v VS Low V which is what you should be mainly concerned about. Pretty sure that video was already posted on this forum.

Personally, I don't recommend you mix those up. Kites were designed to perform at their best either on a High V bar or Low V bar. If both kites you want to fly on the same bar were designed for Low V then it will be fine with a low V bar like a slingshot bar. However, I'm pretty sure Core, North (pre 2018) and F-one all use high V configurations. North post 2019 uses low V.

Yes you may need to switch pigtails around or just buy universal connectors that can be used either as a larks head or pigtials such as the one on this bar www.kitebud.com.au/product/gin-kite-bar-52cm/

As for the safety system just make sure your bars flags out on a single front line which is a universal standard on all bars since 2018.

Hope this helps

Second what @KiteBud wrote above - other than high-Y and low-V all post 2015-2018 bars should be interchangeable. I personally had a quiver of Ozone and Cabrinha kites which I was flying with OceanRodeo and Cabrinha bars. Currently reduced it all to just Ozone kites and OR bars. I tend to get the gear I like the best, don't pay attention to brands. Matching bars to kites is unnecessary nowadays.
