its only on 2 of the islands you cant stay on for more than on hour. I rekon it is the next abrholas islands. Pitty the wind at this time of year up there is so light. Take ur 16m.

I was goin to sail a yacht there on our trip darwin carnarvon, but got off a broome so missed checkin it out. I'm keen to get there at some point though!

camping is allowed on some of the islands.
there a really good cruising the Kimberly guide published by the Fremantle sailing club which has a good guide as to where you can and cant go, and where is safe to anchor etc, but it doesn't tell where the best wave spots are. I thinik the book is available at the map shop in freo.

was there about this time 2 years ago for a 10 day trip and it blew 30 knots for 3 days.Took the sailboard with me but the miles of weed on the surface put me off apparently the 100s of turtles you see eat the weed from the roots up and this leaves it to look like an oil slick on the water surface.Running your lines of the back of the boat(kiting) would be difffucult not to get a birds nest. The surf was great when the 3m tide drained of the reef. All the surf is a long way off shore on bombies on high tide its fat and horrible but low tide is epic.Being so far from land it can be a fickle place to surf, windsurf or kite. The fishing is the only thing that can make it better than the abrolhos.Well worth the experience would love to fly over it.

The winds are pretty light over there at the moment with the SE trades still forming and the SW seabreeze loosing its strength as we go into winter. BUT as we move into winter (when perth starts getting a few fronts) the SE trades will start to kick in and you will have weeks on end where the wind will not get below 20 knots and the nights and mornings will be more like 30 knots. July and August are almost guaranteed with swell to boot. Monte Bello Island Safaris have a houseboat and charter vessel with the cook being a keen kiteboarder so maybe try them.
DEC however do not give permits for kiteboarding charters as they think we move too fast for the poor turtles[}:)], so go on a fishing charter and take your kite gear. As far as radiation goes the Islands had less radiation than the city almost 10 years ago when it was last tested, just leave any steel on the Islands well alone as this is all still highly radioactive.(think bbq hotplate that does not need a burner)
