The image below indicates the recently proposed kite exclusion zones and the designated kite launch/landing zone at Mullaloo beach.

Exclusion Zone 1, which extends along the beach for 1.5km in front of the Mullaloo Surf Life Saving Club (611m north and 889m south of the Surf Club) and 200m seawards from the low water mark;

Exclusion Zone 2, which extends along the beach for 700m on North Mullaloo Beach (300m north and 400m south of the West View Boulevard Car Park beach access path) and 200m seawards from the low water mark; and

Designated Area on the beach for launching and landing, which extends along the beach for 345m between Exclusion Zone 1 and Exclusion Zone 2.

Given the alternative was an exclusion zone along the entire Mullaloo beach front, these zones are the outcome of extensive negotiations with the City of Joodalup.

These zones have been supported by the Mullaloo SLSC - without their support we would have ended up with a complete ban at Mullaloo.

The long term continuity of the designated launch/landing area will be contingent upon self regulation by local kiters and kiters working with the City of Joondalup and Mullaloo SLSC to make sure the zones work. We expect Joondalup to install appropriate signage in the short term.

That northern patrolled area was hardly up most of the season last yr so its more than a fair arrangement. The other area was already know to most as a no go zone as well, and only tools doing downwinders from pinnas ever ignored it. Expect too cop a mouthful if you don’t stick too these exclusions as u will be ruining it for alot of well behaved locals!!!

I would suggest to everyone (even those not normally kiting there) that you print and keep a copy of the original WAKSA post above and diagram handy whenever you go down to the beach - until a more official leaflet is produced.

If we are going to self-police properly, this will be a crucial first step.
You are now armed with 'the law' to approach people and educate them - please be active everyone in doing each of our part here - in respect of the great efforts made by WAKSA, Councillors, Clubbies, Kiters, etc to get us to this.

Shan.

Alternative: big red bit covers entire suburb.

345m will be a real squeeze i'm sure.

You would be kidding yourself if you think any organisation could have successfully argued a case for unrestricted kiting on all beaches everywhere.
AKSA and all interested parties have done a good job.
No lol about it.

Sorry,
but I just had to simplify that stupid map. ^^^

I read the notes on the map and they gave me a big headache.

Carry on.

BOTH exclusion zones are permanent and not dependent on the flags being out, therefore it is essential that kiters don't think 'oh there is no one on the beach, sod it I will kite in the exclusion zone'

If this happens, bye bye Mullaloo next season.

EVERYONE must stick to this at all times

I know this rules out the waves at the point now and I did make that point to Clr Young, but at the end of the day we were facing a recommendation of total bans so just being on the beach is a result.

Yikes!!! Great there wasnt a blanket ban but that 345m is sure going to be a tighty for those wanting some waves to fool around in.

Mate, its permanent... all the time. in winter, only the locals and die-hard kite. Its only not even a handful and we are all at that area any way.
