yep i plan to do some video action. but its the worst month of the year for wind at the mo and most of my sessions are opposite tack. which means crappy waves. i may need to wait until the spring westerlies return before any half decent wave footage.

Some more recent videos. Maybe at 4:50 a gybe? Its rare to see a gybe on a small mutant.

I have the Ocean Rodeo mako 140 and king 165. My style would be more freeride than freestyle, weight around 80kgs & 48yr. The bottom concave and longitudinal curve make for a sensational smooth ride in even the choppiest conditions. I have the king set up with a deck pad and straps in a surf style. The fin set up is tri fin one end and front single centre fin. This set up lets you surf and when needed you can still ride heel side to let the legs rest. The bottom curve keeps the front fin out of the water until needed. Kiting mates all love to take the both of the makos out for a spin when I'm not using them. Wish someone would sell them in Oz, had to get mine from the US. These boards are great on joints & easy to turn for old fellas like me!

Thanks Tiger

Do you find the 140 needs a bit more juice to get going than most 140cm boards?

I'm thinkin that the very rounded tips makes the usuable length of the board more like 132-ish?

How is the single fin on grip?

I prefer a TT stance as I like to hit the mush, natural and goofy, just as hard. Hence I couldn't go for the CB wave and other biased boards.
(Yeh I know - some would say all my riding looks goofy )

Perfect combo Brycol !

I have same set up as u on my King ... works really well imo (6' & 85kgs)

The full-on 18mm of concave sets these boards apart from the rest ... after u get into 'em it becomes evident ...
(i come from a surfing background and used to love deep deep channels)

It's like the deep concave provides a mini-hydro foil affect, and it funnels the water out the back more ... this is why they handle chop so well ... it provides lift & 'cushions' the ride, and i find i can ride for much longer periods than before

the rocker in 'em also makes them feel shorter than they are & combines well with the 18mm concave thru-out

the rounded ends means no face spray, and yes Funky they make the 140 seem small for a 140 ... I used to ride underground 138 and it dont feel bigger than that, under foot.

Single fin with grip ?
****k the way the concave works makes the rails hold so well, I've often thought I could ride even with out the 2 single middle-set fins sometimes - in extremely flat water ... and ****n great for super shallow sand banks when they crop up

BUt, I am biased, i ****n love e'm !

I gotta say ive been riding a mutant in the surf for the last 5 or so years (RRD Toxic Wave) and was recently one of the sheep that was talked into buying a surfboard ( North whip) which is a great board but I am having half the fun I was having on the Mutant! Im going back to the toxic wave....bring on the Mutant love!
Defiantly recommend the toxic wave, it rides both ways really well through I pretty much always ride it toeside.

Yeh I wonder the same?

Oh - and boosting?

I like the look of the Makos (and am not one to ride what all the sheeple do - but what works for me) and have no doubt the rail/concave/rocker combo would be super cool in chop, but what about the single fin on a heavy (he he for me) turn/slash?

Mind you the caveat is that I kida like when my current TT breaks out from being pushed too hard on top of a mushy wave(hell at least unlike most SB rider round here I'm not delusional and think I'm riding Pipeline). That little bit of adrenalin keeps it interesting

Either way - i gotta get more time on the water. Haven't been out since end of Summer..

New board should help remind to scan the charts more often.

Hey Plummet, I'm thinking about making a mutant (I've made a couple of TT's and the learning curve is ready for a performance board). If you don't mind me asking, how much rocker did you run with and was it consistent (or did it favour the tip)? Also, what type of construction did you use and what weight (excluding straps & fins) did you end up with?

I'm thinking of going with a wood core (few layers of ply) with fiberglass coat.
