Hi all.

The other day I discovered the bolt (inside the board) that the foot pad screws into had broken out of the board. What made the discovery worse was that I was 100m from shore!!! There are a couple of different settings on this board, so I was able to move the footpad over and keep going on the day. I am worried that this will only get worse in the long run.

Anyway. There should be some way of fixing it I hope. !!HELP!!

How tall are you ? I had the same board and always used the wider setting which is what it looks like you have changed to.....

I don't see any reason why super glue wont stick it back in though- it is an insert that has come out isn't it ?

Yes you are right. The insert has come out. Do I not have to waterproof it somehow?

I am 1.9m tall, give or take. Weighing 85kg.

Maybe some resin around the outside of the insert afterwards...

At your height I would have thought you would be using the outside inserts anyway for a wider stance- personal preference though.

Saffieboy, don't use superglue it's too brittle and wont like the stresses from the foot strap, message me your number and i can help with some epoxy glue to fix or fill the hole.

Hey Saffieboy,

You really need to mix epoxy resin with some microballoons filler and clean the insert up with some acetone prior to re-inserting it. Wash the area and flush it properly to remove any salt water, then let it dry completely. Clean away any foam/debris stuck to the insert and fill the hole with resin/filler mix, then insert the insert.

To make it stronger you should also roughen up the surface on the top deck and put a couple of layers of light glass fibre matting to give it some strength also as the top deck has been fractured and has lost all it's skin strength. If you are careful and keep it tidy, most of the work will be hidden by the footpad/footstrap.

Good luck,

Actually, I've just gone looking for the insert and can't find it!!

Can you buy them anywhere? Or should I just use any bolt that will fit?

I'm kinda surprised that you were using the inner mount points as i'm also riding the same '06 Sol at very similar height and i have to use the outer mounts. (Just put Cab Sync's on it yesterday! )
I guess it's just a question if you want to do a good job of it and re-set the thread into the board if you just want to seal up the hole and be done with it. I'm sure a 'bolt-barn' or similar would have the right size threaded rod for you and wouldn't cost more than a couple of dollars.

Coventry fasteners is good for odd stuff but has a $10 minimum spend on cash sales...

Whatever way you glue them back in make sure that the nuts are sealed in properly. My Sol had similar problems, but the nut came loose before it came out of the board, this allowed water to get into the board so that it creased across the deck through the loose nut. End result = one stuffed board. Pity as it had been my favorite board.

Cheers

If you don't mind the wider foot stance I would just fill the hole back in (properly with epoxy) and not worry about putting your insert back in. You need to fix it otherwise water is going to damage your board. A cheap repair will keep your board going for a couple more years.

You could always go for a new Sol... they are lotsa fun...

Thank's everyone for your help. I ended up just filling the hole in. Thank's KFKiter, that glue looks to be working a treat! Only time will tell, but I think it looks solid.

Thanks again!

Easiest way to patch it up is just buy a tube of araldite, and keep riding with a wider stance. It will be stronger then ever, and never leak.
