I have been helping some local PNG land owners set up a kite camp, would like to know what you think and any ideas. It is 1:30 hours out of Port Moresby so cheap easy access, most of the beaches around the area are black sand, this spot is a white to light gray, with a black reef that sets out off the water about 1km off shore, 70% of tide heights there is a sand bank exposed running between the reef and the shore line at 90 degree angle to the trade winds which blows SE starting from May to December, just about guarantee wind every day from July to end of November, there is a large lagoon in leeward of the sand bar which is one of the best spots to teach new kiters with nothing but open clean water and white sand beach to retrieve. The area is super safe we have been camping there over the last year no one lives on the shore line so you can walk the beach anytime day or night for miles and see not a soul and if you do they will be from the village that own this coast line, it is one of the biggest Villages sitting on the main highway about 3 km inland. If you get sick of kiting super clean, warm, flat water all day! Then take a trip to the Village to be treated to some local hospitality, we are also setting up a donation bin at the local Church for books, clothes, sporting gear what ever you like. It all will be though bookings only so to control numbers to no more than 12 kiters at one time, all income will go to the land owners, camp set up coast and on going maintenance.

Now that is gold!! Cannot wait to see the reply from Scotty, all he had to say about the shot is too old! too fat! And my kite is too high! :-)

oops...you're right. not enough grey hairs for jojo, plus it's a north board, and he's not riding toeside...i looked at the photo from a phone first time
i thought he looked a touch big but may have put on a few kgs since travelling

good luck with the camps mark- it looks like an awesome spot. is it anywhere near the place you used to windsurf from when you were plumbing in moresby? you took me, dave silvester, aaron, leggatt, and chucky norris down there one day after the sp hobie titles (in 94 i think).

Been there - its a great spot - fully recommend it for awesome flat water / culturally interesting / relaxing get away.

I heard rumours that Kitepower QLD were putting together a trip. Its a good one. great place to ride flat water and eat fresh seafood, enjoy local hospitality and check out our closest neighbour.

Hey guys if you want to phone Mark to organise a trip you will (if calling from Australia) have to put 0011 in front of the phone number that has been posted. Happy days

I think that trip is on the Golden Dawn, the boat is currently in Cairn's getting a make over.

I'm living in PNG at the moment and loving it, but can not wait until Laurabadda.
