Hi,

GreenPat and I were chatting the other day, and Pat said how good it would be to be able to organise cars & people via Seabreeze.

We threw around some ideas, and decided to prototype it here in the forums.

Get involved .. you get to meet a heap of new kiters, you can still do a downwinder if all your mates are stuck doing something else, and hopefully organise some downwinders in places where you would normally do them.

If you keen, get in there, and use it however you see fit ..

www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/forum.asp?FORUM_ID=71

p.s. If you've got a better name than "Downwinder organiser", I'm all ears!

Would this be better in each states area ? or at least separated?

It's got the usual "state" filters, so when you add a new topic, choose the state from the drop down menu.. (saves having 50 million new forums with only a couple of posts)

Top idea, I just wonder about what would happen if this info fell into the wrong hands.

when ?
where ?
leaving cars full of extra kites ????

I'm all for it but I think we need to be careful.

And that's my 2 cents worth. no change.

Craig

PS cant help my self but maybe a jet ski following the last kiter would be a great safety idea.......

WTF?? ^^^^ I think you should stay with the cars & do security!! A jet ski to follow?? You want the Queen Mary also?

The idea has a few different variations. When someone gets a chance to write some code, there are ways of setting it up so that anyone who expresses interest in a downwinder gets put in contact with other people who can/are doing the same or a compatible downwinder, without everyone else who cares to login knowing too much detail.

Until someone gets a chance to write said code, we thought we'd run it as a forum and see how much interest it gets. If it's super popular then the code writing might move up the priority list a bit.

If you're concerned about security for now, just pm people who have said they want to do one.

Brilliant idea, great job guys!

Now who is keen for a DW from Citi Beach to Trigg on Saturday, looks like great wind.

I'll post a thread closer to the time - goto check with the powers that be.

Cheers

How about the Disorganisation Forum ?
For those kiters who like to be confused and placed in disarray.
haha
...Another stupid geek idea that will last about one month, tops.

Seriously Laurie,
have you really thought this idea thru ?
This proposed downwinder dating service has a lifespan of about one month left...
because then the season will change to autumn,
and that means the seabreezes will back off and so will downwinders.
You're going to end up with a forum section that is dead for most of the year...
a bit like that WAKSA forum.
lol.

i think its a good idea, every time i head somewere i try to include others as to exspand there kiting portfolio, & its more fun & safer to kite in groups.as was craigs thinking with a tailend charley jet ski. we often have empty cars & 4wd`s when heading to spots so this will make us plan kiting days better,
cheers
top idea,
daz

>> "Your idea sucks", "loser idea".

You guys are fantastic. I want to come and drink beer with you guys. Imagine the laughs we'd have!

It's a way for people who enjoy kiting to get together, and for newbies to hook up with other kiters, and share the stoke.

Personally, I've met so many crew through kiting & these forums and these friendships continue on to this day.

If the "organiser" only ever introduces 2 new people to each other, I'll consider it a success.

Enjoy!

The Guys I usually go with could not make it for a DW last weekend, so I took a gamble and did a downwinder by myself from Citi beach to Brighton.

Got to Brighton and I had missed the first fleet of guys and I was not going to hang around for the next fleet as I had other commitments so I started my 5km barefoot walk (I've done it before a couple of season ago, twice actually)- luckily a fellow kiter spotted me halfway back to Citi beach and picked me up - thanks Steve.

So I think this thread is great especially if my normal crew can't make it.

These other guys that bag this idea have forgotten what it was like when starting out kitesurfing - they like bitter old men!

Ahhhh....that's sweet. ^^^
Laurie = Cupid
"Organiser" = Dating Service.
Nice.
Here's my idea.
How about a downwinder shuttle bus that operates as an actual business during the summer season ?
City Beach > Trigg > City Beach ....say $10 per ride.
Apparently Capetown has one.

Nah, I have heaps of numbers in my phone, always someone keen. plus we have a locals kiter website to arrange these things. don't need to broadcast it like in the past, there was a time safety Bay was a quet place until everyone started typing about it. Why would we anyone want to go down that same track.

Last resort I have a Mrs that isn't a bitch, she doesn't mind helping me out if I need her, fortunately I've never had to resort to it.

"Bitter old man" maybe, but not tomorrow, will be more like happy middle age man

Nice idea i think

With breaks getting more n more crowded day by day in the metro downwinders are in part a solution. Spreading the crowd etc

Edit: There are no secret spots in the Metro anymore that includes Avalon

Got a new name already .. "The Hookup" .. would be great to see if it gets used for organising road trips as well .. I know some of the shops organise social trips for newbs, and it would be great to see them get involved.

One of the best parts of kiting are road trips all over Australia. What better reason to travel this brilliant country than to kite new spots with no crowds.

Hoping it will help out crew who want/need a lift to events, such as the Nationals, Kitestock, Mambo, Coconet etc..

Last years Kitestock I gave a lift to crew I didn't know, had a great laugh, and still in contact with them today.

Enjoy!

Don't like downwinders? Simple...don't do them.

Don't like to meet up with crew? Simple...don't meet up.

Don't like 'the Hook Up'? Simple...don't fkn use it then.

It's pretty simple really...

Juddy has a pretty good point. instead of waisting your energy whining like little b@#$%&s get off your ass and go for a kite.

This on the other hand makes more sense Lozz. It has multi uses for the catagory, instead of just downwinders to help out the DUI offenders.

This idea may have some merit.
