Sweet, I am in as soon as I can jibe
I can jibe a windsurf so is it fairly similar?

Hi Sebol,

Yes, it is similar to gybing a poleboard, but as Tightlines suggests, it would be more appropriate to learn to tack. Hehe!

Great response people. I can't wait.

BTW. Boards will be available for practice runs on the windy days prior to the race day for those who can't help but race competitively I'll be working on my tacking me thinks!

Cheers,

KH

In France there are local and national long distance kite racing comps for a few years now. it's not one on one, but everyone together, up to a hundred
(with compulsory helmets)
it's getting more and more popular, a great way to kite together

and you can put buoys to jump on the ways, with compulsory jumps like backloops

Damn I should have kept my mouth shut on that one, but I'm sure you have already got the tacks sussed KH, I've been doing a few on the surfboard and it's not that hard with a board with a bit of rocker and small fins but I'm sure a board resembling an ironing board with huge daggers for fins would be a completely different story.

hey darren, good on you, u r right, long distance race is getting massive for some time now here in france and in europe in general; b sroka won the comp we organised last may here in frejus ( frogland ), c deleau is also a very good rider as m blanc on foilboards. the way they ride with this gear is simply unbeleivable. I won t be in perth before end of next week, sorry will miss the pinaroo bb, but count me in for the race, i ll be happy to use one of your boards, might practise with a carafino foilboard if i can get one IN DEMO some place around perth...NEVER DONE IT, SHOULD BE FUN

Great idea Darren....
I will try to work out something similar so that when the winter come in OZ we can continue in Bali....
If are 8-10 knots days what you need!!!! WOW.... we do have plenty in Bali....
Been riding 5 of the last 5 days with the Zephyr...
Yesterday even have a chance to try the North RAce 2009..
Today I even tested against my Underground FreeWave Fish..

FUN factor - the Fish win hands down!! Goes very smoothly, surf nicely and turn in a dime. Can Jump better then a Race Board and don't make you too tired..
LOW wind - I think about the same maybe I need 1/2 knots more for the Fish to get going.

Upwind and Speed.. NO COMPETITION there... Like a Ferrari and a Fiat!!!

Conclusion!!! I'm sure that the Fish will have some very good day but I REALLY WANT A RACE BOARD NOW!!!! ACTUALLY FEW as if I'm the only one to have one is not fun at all...
Bring on the 8+ knots days!!! We do have plenty here!!!
Bye Jankie

Ha, I don't even get out of bed for anything less than 18 knots...

PS. I'm actually still in bed at the moment.

Hey Jankie,

You're right! 8-12 knots is super fun on the Zephyr and North Race LTD, you have to ride it to feel the love of going fast in little to no wind and almost calm seas. When the water's not choppy there is a very different enjoyment to kiting fast upwind. I think it's the concentration on getting the trimming and riding technique down pat that keeps it challenging, not to mention physical challenges.

Weird as it seems, I actually look forward to ultra light winds and can't wait for a 10 knot Westerly so I can do a coast run from Pinnaroo to Fremantle and back.

I'm looking forward to the racing so much so that I sat up last night 'til after midnight working out a double elimination draw schematic for when the racing becomes bigger.

Cheers,

KH

Hi Peeps,

Because tomorrow is the BBQ and WACK girls day at Pinnaroo and also the first half decent breeze we will have had in a while, I will place the racing marker buoys out in the course area and will have the Race boards available for demo all afternoon in case you'd like to come for a practice or demo of the race gear.

If it's light, we might even share our nice new Ozone Zephyr light wind kite

Can't wait for a bit of wind!

See you all tomorrow!

Cheers,

KH

Sorry for late notice but Racing has been called off for today due to basically crap weather and is to be resumed on Friday 20th Nov.

See you at the beach, racing begins as soon as we get two riders ready with a course laid. Official start time 4.30-5pm

Hey Guys,

Remember that this is one on one racing so we can only run one heat at atime meaning we start at 4.30 ish and as people turn up, they race. If you can only turn up at 5.30, you'll race then. We'll carry on racing until just before sundown so we can get the markers in before dark.

Cheers,

KH
