Leighton beach WA. gusty southerlies, no swell, really average. 1 surfer out just having a paddle, 2 swimmers.

50 meters is double your line length. That is how far you MUST stay away from other beach users. I saw 2 collisions within 3 minutes. A yellow GK sonic was dropped on a surfers head who duck-dived to get out of the lines, and a white, beige and red cabrinha dropped on the swimmers. I was saddened it was pack up time and I had to go pick up my daughter as I really wanted a word.

Why kite so close to the general public? they dont give a stuff what your doing..
Please, dont give councils ammo to get what we love banned.

Kiting motto: observant, on-the ball, considerate.

Merry Christmas. Stay safe

Dave

thanks for your post. With the number of new kiters popping up @ Leighton recently, this incident is a timely reminder about the work Leighton Kiters has been doing.

LK recognises that there are a number of different beach user groups at Leighton and in order to keep Leighton open and accessible for kiters, we would like to take this opportunity to remind kiters to launch & land south of the dog beach. This is the area to the left of the signs stuck in the sand.

LK has had some positive but preliminary feedback from the City of Fremantle about our proposal, and we expect some more formal fairly soon (stay tuned for that).

In the mean time, please help keep this great location open by launching & landing south of the dog beach - this diagram will help crew work out the area we encourage kiters to use.

Tis the season...

Was at Triggs yesterday arvo...just finished a session which was a bit average due to the wind - anyway I see this guy launch a big kite - like a 15m - and proceed down to the water, right on the southern red/yellow swimming area flag.

This is about 500m from where I am packing up but I can sense what is going to happen....

sure enough out he goes.......tries a launch, totally screws it and sends the kite crashing beach side at warp speed, straight into a group of people, including kids standing on the shore.

Made a special detour on my way to the car - had a chat - euro - never kited at triggs before and basically no F#$%^@n idea about common kiting sense.

Set him straight but as stated earlier in the post, this is why we will get pushed off the main beaches.

If you see some clown about to or already cocking up, then make a point of having a chat - you don't need to be aggressive or a beach nazi - just point them in the right direction.

If we don't get proactive, then it will be all over.....

If possible getting them before they go out is better.

Remember we can all be new to an area and a nice explanation would be good.
