Mine was at exmouth 7 years ago. Kited three hours at bundegi, then hit graveyards for a wave then some blue glass at sandy bay. 9 hours in total. Couldn't walk the next day. Close second was last new years eve, freak swell, my bro and I out at a local break. Big huge sets coming in. Ended in kite mare as well brother inverted and tore my old warroo into pieces. No loss.

Wedge island last summer,

huge downwinder saturday morning 3.5hrs, sunny, good swell kiting in boardies.
Back to the shack for barbie with good mates, 2d huge downwinder Saturday arvo then barbie with same great mates.

Crash the night and huge downwinder Monday morning (same conditions),barbie at the shack then huge downwinder in the arvo (lying here because I could not take any more with my jelly legs so I drove along the beach while watching my mates and picked them up at the end),back to the shack and you guessed it another barbie.

Drove back to Perth and slept 4 days!!!!

kited some epic spots but some of my favorite sesh's were a just quick run down the metro downwinder...sometimes everything just comes together - you land all those moves, always seem to be in the right spot on the wave, line up continuous little runners, and at the time you think...that was the best kite Ive ever had.

You know when you're hooting yourself you're having a sick sesh.

Orewa beach just north of auckland. It was pouring rain, middle of winter and absolutely freezing but hadn't had a decent session in ages so i braved the cold in a 5mm wetsuit and booties for 4hrs solid and had a ball! The session ended with a kiwi kiter coming up to me and saying "jeez bro you got some really bug ears out there"...

At my local East end beach NP. It was one of those winter storms blowing 25-40 knots. swell was 5 meters and surf was monster. it was one of those victory or death days. About 5 of us braved the conditions for about 2 hours. I remember riding the waves boosting stupid on the inside and on the way back out. Doubling up monster waves, jumping off one set and landing on the other side of the next.
Epic indeed.

Bali,2008 double overhead, barreling, sideshore with a hint of off 20knots, 4hours with one other dude out. It was too big for all the euros who all went to Sanur for the day! Forget the kite it was like tow-in surfing.I forget where the location was. Another almost as epic was a downwinder from seminyak to Changu, made the leighton-scarb run look pathetic. December one year I kited Uluwatu as we had some monsoon wind, got a biggie and went for easily 800m on one wave, unfortunately this has made me a total wave snob.

Kitestock 09

First Big downwinder and we're all sitting on the beach with about 5 Knts.
After 30 min wait, we all saw whitecaps on the horizon, 10 mins later we had a 30Knt SW and everyone was launching like lunatics.
I was on a 7m torch (was 40Kg), 2.5 hours of straight downwind looping and carving.

^^ Yep there has been a couple of classic "epic downwinders" at KS, and I remember that one well , can't believe I was riding a tt (but it was a hammer).
I was on a 10 DOS, I had bought a 5.5 on the way up because I knew it was going to be nuking but elected to take the 10 for the DW because the wind was so light at the start. By halfway I was doing some insane speed runs in the smooth shallows then doing some of the biggest launches I have ever done off some of the waves.

Here is a couple of shots taken a matter of a couple of hours apart at the start, with kites falling out of the sky

midway

and the finish.

... for me, riding my first 5m wave, in Vietnam, 30 - 35 knots with a 12m (on a twin tip so not legit)!

... and possibly the other one was going upwind for the first time on a 2m Stonker directional, nearly dark in 12 knots using an 18m Naish X2, all alone.

Had so many good ones since but my Hieniken habit has done its magic and I just can't remember that many so I believe the next session is going to be the one!!

cheers,

Robbie

Every time I learn a new trick is the best kite ever!

Forever progressing.

Love the sport.

I can tell you my worst kite ending ever!

Port Gregory Lagoon, 30knot Northerly on a 9m 4 line Nash Boxer (2002/3), I was learning at this stage. After kite surfing I couldn't land the kite because the dunes where so close.
As a noob can be......

I sent the kite to 12 too quickly, tea bagged out of the water landing on the beach head first (My first kitemare!) - subsequently dragged down the beach.

I ended up with a nice bloody leg and a sore head.

March this year.....2 days after I got married to the girl of my dreams....Chilling in Augusta in a caravan park on the edge the river (towed a brand new luxury caravan down) ...asked for the honey moon site...winerys for lunch and later left the bride napping in the van and went down and rode my new 10m lithium on the flattest water possible in 25 knots. Skimming along the bank trailing a hand thru the grass and flowers ....The only sound the ssssss of my board thru the water.......

Purest joy

Still my "go to" memory when the clouds threaten

Best session I have ever had was down South Coast way, I must be getting old I can't remember the spot .
I was suppose to be catching up with a mate that works on the mines but his flight was delayed for a day because of bad weather up North.
I ended up at this spot SUPing for an hour or so until the breeze picked up. I was on my own and had a brand new kite so was pretty cautious at first, but the conditions were perfect cross shore so after a while I started getting into it a bit more.
The swell was building and the wind picked up more and started going slightly crossoff, so I was just about to come in when another kiter came out.
I stayed out for another two hours kiting super clean, well overhead waves, just the two of us out.
I wouldn't have a clue who he was but we had a ball, its almost as much fun watching someone carve up a wave whilst you are heading out as it getting the wave yourself.
I think I was out kiting for about five hours straight, then off to the tavern for lamb shanks and a couple of pints.

Today....... In about 2 hours at Exmouth at the new secret spot that we found on a downwinder yesterday. Me and Eppo, stumbled upon it, left and rights peeling of the reef into a deep channel. If it holds a big swell, it is the kind of spot you see only on videos. I am so suprised know one was out, and if I posted it here, I would have to kill myself, before Eppo killed me, then killed himself.

An epic 3 hour session at above spot. Not quite enough swell for the left, but right hander was pumping. Phil on the strapless SB looked awesome wish I had a camera, some classic shots. Wind was okay but did take you off wave a little, had to stall cut back left and ride. best wave in exmouth for sure, but long way out and not for the faint hearted. old man eppo can hardly walk!! Phil you made my day showing me what the cb wave can do on the flat, and i will say hi to the ranger for you

ps phil if ya read this later, not hitting bombie tomoz, no swell, so taking off thrusters on CB wave Twin tipping it at sandy bay, then heading back sunday hoping to get coronations or point moore on the southerley. Wish I could stay tues to thurs increases in wind and swell...enjoy boys.
