Queensland Kitesurfing

Hey All

I am moving to Brisbane for a new job in a few months, and wanted to know whether or not that region gets "windy" seaons, and where is good to go etc. Any help would be much appreciated!

yeah nah yeah. Good NE wind in middle of summer. Macking southeasters at the moment. Water is seriously feral though so weekends you should go to the goldy or sunshine coasts. It's a local tradition to yell out 'boost' when you go really high.

Be careful of the guy at redcliffe with the blue and white C-kite he will boost over your strings with little or no warning! It's funny though :-)

Redcliffe is a crap place to kite anyway, wouldn't go there.

Could this be the infamous line jumper?

SE Qld windy season starts Sept/Oct with NE seabreezes.

Jan/Feb sees the start of SE trade winds (like the ones we have now)

In the middle we often get NE for a few days, then a big storm, the a day or two of SE.

The SE wind normally stops round Anzac day and winter is pittifull except for the odd SW cold blast. There aren't that many locations to kite in a SW.

so, basically if i move to brisbane say april to october is the worst time to be there?

Yep. Desperado time. We chase the SW winds all over looking for a kite. Or go to NQ, Cocos, Mauritius etc

So, where would be the better place to move if I had an option? Australia is a big place there must be wind in the winter time somewhere! I will be completly honest with you, I am moving from New Zealand to Australia (not a kiwi though).

Lol I know the line jumping man!!!! Luckily in Brisbane there's a spot to ride in any wind direction... Winter sucks but it's ridable if you know what your doing...

Call any of the local shops to get the details of where to kite in what directions...
