Kitepower, Wind Surf and Snow and Cabrinha Race Series.
Contact Kitepower (steve@kitepower.com.au) or
Wind Surf and Snow (info@windsurfnsnow.com.au) for more details
The Race series is to be held at Dolls Point, unless we let you know otherwise.
The dates for the 6 race series are
5:00pm
Nov 5th and 19th, Dec 3rd and 17th, Jan 14th and 28th
Cabrinha, Kitepower and Wind SurfNsnow have assisted the NSWKBA, to have on hand 4 Cabrinha race boards for use by competitors in the race series, these can also be borrowed from either retailer (where they are stored) for practice and demo purposes, between the race evenings.
We need volunteers to help with set up, pack down and to register and time the race participants, please reply if you are willing to assist as a volunteer, on any or all evenings.
All participants must register and be current financial members of NSWKBA/AKSA prior to the first race. On the afternoon of each race your name will be recorded and checked for NSWKBA membership, and you will be required to sign a waiver, you will then be allocated a race number. No Number, no entry, this is a volunteer organised event, so make it easy on yourself and us by arriving and registering early.
The format for this year will be simple, its designed to be a fun event and to give everyone an idea of what Course Racing is about, if there is enough interest, I'm sure the series will evolve in subsequent years. We thought about different classes, race board, twin tip, surfboard but since it is our first year and not many people have experience with race boards as yet we decided on a single class of kiteboard, so ride whatever you feel comfortable on.
The races will consist of 1 lap around a series of red buoys, heats will be started in quick succession and hopefully everyone will get a chance to race at least twice per race meet.
There will be prizes for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd places for the series and the top 3 places will be decided by the people with the lowest overall score for the series. So the scores for each series race meet, are 1st=1, 2nd=2, 3rd=3 and so on, competitors can drop their 2 highest scores if they participate and complete each 6 races, there will be a minimum of 4 scores counted (provided at least 4 race evenings are run).
Hope to see you there. Let your friends know and remember they must be current members of NSWKBA to enter.
Regards
Graeme Snowdon NSWKBA
Can't do 3rd december, bugger there goes my two drop races, I will need them
Anybody on the central coast/newcastle interested in getting one of the loan boards to share for a few days pm me
Are the races starting at 5pm? Or do we need to be down there by 5pm?
I might be able to make it seeing as I'm just around the corner but it may be hard for a few people...
Sounds like fun.
We are hoping for 5:00pm for registration and get things going as soon as we can. Earlier the better to help set up if you can.
Hey Graeme,
I'll do my best. I'm usually stuck here till around 7 each night so getting off by 5 will be a struggle in itself.
Count me in though and if I get off early enough I'll give you a hand setting up.
Did I mention prizes?
Cabrinha have offered a $1000 gift voucher redeemable on any Cabrinha goods with any Cabrinha dealer. Cabrinha are giving a quality 2011 "green cap" to every participant too.
2nd and 3rd prizes to come when I have more details.
We are meeting tonight to beat out the final details. I've got all the buoys organised with anchors and simple ways to deploy and rig them, no-one will complain this year that they cannot see them!!!
Stop watches are here, volunteers are on standby, just a few details to sort out tonight like the entry fee and we will be sure to have a great fun series this year.
Entry fee per race night is $10 (please bring correct change)
All racers must be members of NSWKBA, anyone can race on the first night even if they are not a member but to race on subsequent nights all racers have to show proof of membership with NSWKBA.
Wind forecast is not fantastic at this time, so keep checking this thread on Seabreeze and also those who recieved emails directly from myself at Kitepower or from NSWKBA or Wind Surf and Snow, check your inbox around 2-2.30pm, as we will make a final decision on whether to hold the race by then and email or post the decision.
There will be a few beers and snags after the race. Racing should be finished by 7.00pm.
So for so good for this afternoon's racing. As @ 2:30pm wind is OK. Get there early as possible to help with the set up.
Thanks people.
Well that was an amazing night, the rain held off, the wind hung in, people had a lot of fun, our weird summer continued to do its things and everyone went home buzzing with a couple of snags and a beer, thanks for coming everyone and making the first race night a huge success!
Pics and maybe even a video will follow, pretty sure the fastest time of the night was clocked by wdric, and tailgated for second by coxy from Jervis and then backed up by Richie, strapless on a Kipuna!!!
And thanks to the guys that put some time in to get it all happening
Cabrinha, Kitepower, Wind SurfNsnow & NSWKBA and the bbq chef

Every racer had 2 attempts at the course. The course consisted of a challenging upwind 1st buoy, crossupwind 2nd buoy, 3rd downwind buoy, followed by a reach back to the beach, 1 lap per heat.
Winds were variable between 12 and 18 knots, with an opposing tide, at Dolls Point.
Goes to show bigger wide longer boards like the slingshot glyde are fast in the light wind, I heard ric made the top mark first tack?
