The reason nobody is using them at botany is:
There not setting a proper upwind/downwind course to suit the dedicated course boards, instead they run a triangle course with a very short beat upwind followed by 2 long reaches so the advantage of having the course board is very little if not nonexistent. Which is a real same because they have the 4 cabrinha course boards there but nobody is willing to put in the time and effort involved in learning how to ride them because the course doesn't suit..
Ive been riding the 2011 North race LTD for the past couple of months and have finally got the tacks and gybes down consistent and let me say if they set a legit upwind/downwind course a twintip or surfboard wouldn't stand a chance against a dedicated course board..
Hats off to steve and the crew at wind surf and snow for getting the Race series up and running tho

Hi Brad

I've definitely been setting a stiff upwind first tack, especially since we spoke and you gave me some feedback about the courses, but unfortunately you have not turned up to see how far upwind the first buoy is. The last 2 courses and especially last weeks was much more elongated and upwind/downwind.
I've learned a lot about setting the courses, but readily admit I've still got a lot to learn too. I'd really appreciate seeing some people grab the demo course boards, 2 are available here, and 2 are at WS&S and learning how to use them then compete, they will leave the TT's and surfboards for dead and then we would see some really real racing in Sydney.
However the racing we are having is real and it is real fun judging from the looks on the riders faces and comments from them afterwards.

Looking at the scores the title and main prize is still up for grabs so the last night of summer racing will be exciting for sure, please see if you can make it and help throw a cat amongst the pigeons LOL's.

I think it's good to have it the way it is. Not everybody wants to fork out money for a raceboard just so they can be competitive in a fun race.

Those on raceboards should learn how to go downwind better. I've been practicing but it's freaking hard!!! Its like learning all over again.

In saying that I missed last week so you're all going down in another fortnight?

I like your optimism, Jeff.

Note: Final Race date is Friday 18th Feb. Racing will start at approx 5.00pm . Steve will be away in WA on the week prior to this date. Also, we need him to set the course and considering all the hard work he's put in making it happen he should be present for the final race and award giving ceremony.

Let's have as many people as possible racing, even if you have no chance of winning (like Jeff). It should be a fun day during and after the event.

The only thing I don't like is trying to take off at that starting area. If you're the highest upwind and in the water it's a huge advantage, but to get there you've literally got to muscle the others out of the way.

If I had bigger guns I'd be belting people out of the way and would win with my eyes closed. Marine, Rick and Rich are just bigger than I am...

Count back?
Who has the most first place?

Better still we will need another race

If we can get brad there he reckons he will whip all our ass's so that would put a cat amongst the pigions

sounds like the best way to me since count back and number of first places would give two different winners in the case of Rick winning last day. Another race with winner take all sounds like the only fair way to decide a tie especially so late into it. Jeff, kiteloop comp to win sounds like a better idea to me.
Should be a good day lets hope its blowing strong. More the merrier, Brad and Jeff you'd better show up.

Is this thing on? Haven't heard and this southerly looks like it may be a real fizzer according to BOM. Bet the Newy crew would like to know its on asap. They wouldn't want to come the whole way to sydney with 5-10 knots especially after going to WA for the same.

Don't you worry about that richie, the newy crew are always keen
Well at least one of them anyway
especially if it's about 14knts

But have sent a few txt out asking for others to also make the trip down

Did speak to Steve on way back from WA and he reckons it was on, but will depend on the wind tomoz

Weird, thats the addy that bounced, must have been your mail server having a snooze.

Winds in the 15-18 range at the moment. Southerly. Tide will be opposing at race time, but keep an eye on this thread and your inbox for the final decision in a few hours.

Nah the winds not holding up here its just continuing to drop and as it swings to the East will hang in there but well under 10 knots, not enough for a final (or any race really). I will send an email (added yours Jeff) to the race series list I have by 1.00pm today cancelling the race and proposing that it is held tomorrow instead.

So with a NE predicted the final will be held tomorrow so long as Richie, Ric and Marine can attend (each has potential to win the series). Probably kick off around the same time, because everyone has that in their heads, or would racers prefer to start a bit earlier being the weekend?

We need as many starters as possible though, just to keep it interesting, pressure the top riders and also to let people feel how much fun it is to race, even on TT's.

Can you make it tomorrow Ric?? Please send me your phone number too.
