Nice one Picker, why don't you come over hear and ignore the rest of the rules we have in place aswell to give kiters a bad name! Rules are there for keeping kiting at our beaches and the race numbers are limited to ensure the event is manageable and keeps going.
Maybe make a contingency plan or cancel your ticket

Hook, line and sinker...

seriously tho. who's stopping a few extra from doing the run?
just like a few extra that join a marathon for the fun of it.
sure it happened last year. pretty **y that only a few get to do it and a ton miss out.

who's keeping it honest and letting everyone have a fair chance of entering, v's hooking your mates up?? just so happened i was only the island at the time, missed the ferry and decided to kite back.

Hey y'all,

I ain't entering coz I've done my fair share of racing and competition and reckon others can have a go. My thoughts are that if you are doing it just to say you have done it and have no intention of seriously racing, then you shouldn't be entering. It's a RACE, if you aren't there to give it a good rattle and you displace someone who is keen to race, then that's p1ss poor IMHO.

I know a heap of peeps did it last year and had no intention on keeping the pedal to the metal. Strapless surfboards FFS?

Be a bit fair and let the racers race. A good idea would be to run a qualifying series. Top 20 finishers from last year get automatic entry. Everyone else fights it out over three short simple races in the lead up. If there aren't enough people willing to race and fill all the positions, then open it to the random social punters.

Have 2 runs the first for the racers and 30 minutes later a second group who just want to do the run..............would take extra work and need extra support boats but would keep alot of people happy.

This seriously needs to be considered...

Id cut off my little pinky to get a shot at this race.

30knots + 12m Powered Kite + Strapped Surf Board.

THE FRENCH MAN CAN USE SOME ****TY 10 FOOT WINDSURFING BOARD WITH METAL FINS! THIS YEAR HE IS GOING DOWN, LIKE A BUCKET OF FROGS LEGS!

Darens got a point here maybe we need to have a fun event after the main race for the guys who just want to "do it" I know we don't want to have a bunch of noobs getting rescued halfway? Perhaps a have a few downwinders as a requirement to qualify weed out the serious contenders......?

I am sorry , I disagree that the Pro's should only race, it is the nature of racing to have element that can disrupt your progress to GLORY . Tough cookie if some pleb in front of you beats you on his strapless board or wipes out in front and hinders your progress.

For myself, I like to race/do sport for my own gratification, I don't care about winning but more on competing and enjoying myself. That does not mean I am not competitive.

I reckon to keep the "pro's" happy they should have batches that start a couple of minutes apart, it does not change much in regards to logistics other than the race is stretched a bit longer and the rescue boats are on the water for longer. Maybe the longer time will be beneficial to the sponsors and to the vibe of the occasion.

Cheers
Rich

Yeah man, damn those people that have to organise a whole years tour schedule in advance across multiple countries, really what are they thinking putting it the same time as this thing?... how rude of them.

Ok, so it's race day. A ripping 32knots! Woo hoo!

Would any one be considering using an 11m or 12m? As opposed to an 8m?
(I'm 80kg)..... Id be flying like white on rice!

I think it would be a good strategy to be over powered. If **** hits the fan- depower. My only concern is getting too far infront of the Frenchman and seeing him go home in tears.

The PKRA event was on last year on the same week as it is this year.
I think you will find the dates were public for the pkra event loooong before the WA roto race was announced.
The PKRA dates also announced this year looong before the roto race dates made public.
These dates were pointed out to the WA commitee about 1 month before they announced the event this year.
I think you will also find they have bought the roto race forward 1 week compared to last year?

boo hoo you bunch of sooks....

Life's about making decisions. Pick one event, commit to that & be happy in your decision.

Can you imagine just how many events would happen if everyone got asked if date a particular date suited them??? No, that's mum's birthday...that's the gf's birthday...that's granddad's anniversary...no, Saturday's no good because....blah blah blah....Nothing would ever happen.

Sometimes people just miss out on an event & have to accept that sh!t happens.

Since only two of us did it strapless last year and I was one of them I just thought I would tell my side of the story, because I cant help but feel that (although probably not intentionally) this statement is directed at me.
I had hardly touched a TT for months before this race, I almost exclusively rode a strapless surfboard and I had just recently snapped my strapped surfboard. I would have loved to have had time to organise a decent strapped directional board and had thought about getting stick on pads and straps for a gunny 6'8" surfboard that I had.
However we were only notified fairly close to the event that we were in it and conditions weren't much good for experimenting leading up to the event. I had a couple of goes at trying to goes fast on a TT and kept nosediving it etc. Next I screwed some straps into my board that I usually rode strapless but found that the strap position was to far back and the board was bogging down. With limited time to modify or buy/borrow and get used to a new board I decided to just go with what I knew. I still believe that under the circumstances I would not have been able to do any better riding something that I was not familiar with.

I had full intentions of keeping the pedal to the metal, finished in 33 minutes, well and truly in the front half of the pack and in front of a lot of 'serious racers'.
Yes I know that realistically I had next to buckleys of being competitive with the top few but would have been interested to see what would have happened if the wind had of gone a bit more SE as it had threatened to because a strapless surfboard can generally go upwind better than a strapped one or a TT.
Rant over.

Hey Tightlines,

Good on you, why the hell not. The guys on race boards are cheating anyway.

If I could cut the mustard I was considering an Aliaia board, strapless of course.

Freedom to use any board.

Cheers
Rich
