I recently started to work with GoPro to start to look for a few new angles that the GoPro HD could be used for kitesurfing. Instead of making a bunch of mounts that attached everywhere right away, I just wanted to see what angles had the most potential. So I strapped a GoPro to a extendable painter’s pole and I went for a kite pointing the camera in every direction I could could think of. Here’s what I came up with and it gave me a few ideas for the future.. Let me know what you think and if there’s an angle that you would want to try or would like to see..
P.S. I know some of these are nothing new, but it's an attempt to make these angles/mounts more easily available to you.
1. What did the painter say when you strapped a GoPro to his pole?
2. I suppose if you work for GoPro, you do not need to strap the pole to your wrist because the cams come free.

I still like the nose mount, but the cam flips over even if you tighten it up with a Phillips. I have given Go Pro a suggestion about this and there are some on the GoPro user forum. I also made a line mount out of the base plate that the cam gets sold with - drilled a few holes and attached it to the 2 centre lines with cable ties. I got very jerky video, but should be good for photos - still got to try that.
I've been thinking of making an attachment for my harness using a pole about a metre long and attached to the back of the harness with the camera at the end.
Also a bar extension cam - attached above the bar - might be a bit jerky for video.

Go Pro make a chest mount, not a shoulder mount. Shoulder mount sounds like a good idea. Shouldn't be hard to make.

The nose mount is great, but usually cuts off the head of the rider. The 4:3 setting on the camera will get it, but in my opinion that setting is useless. All other video that I do, I shoot in 16:9 and cutting the two different aspect ratios together in one video is just irritating to watch. I use either R3 or R5 depending on the angle and what I want to accomplish with it. (i.e. slow mo 60FPS/ or real time). What I've done is actually made a carbon pole about a 1.5 feet that extends the camera off the nose getting more of the board in the shot as well as the entire rider. You can see this in the video at 23secs. I just needed to properly secure it to the board as I attached it using the stock white stick on plate and the give/flex that the adhesive has makes the camera bounce too much.
I like your harness mount idea. That is actually what I want to accomplish most with this. Holding the camera behind while riding the wave was my favorite angle that I filmed with the pole, but holding it while riding was a pain in the ass as well as it hinders your riding as you only have one hand on the bar at ALL times. But if you make a harness mount, I recommend longer than 1 meter, as you won't get your entire body in the frame. The pole in the video combined with the length of my arm is about 2 meters away; I feel that this is a proper distance. Only problem would be being able to lick the lens to prevent water drops prior to recording..
I just made a bar attachment with an extendable pole. Haven't tried it yet.. Skeptical as the bar moves a lot when you fly... Let you know how it works out though

For a shoulder mount, I would think you could just tighten up either the head mount or the chest mount to position it on your shoulder.

I've been jumping back and forth with straps and strapless for years, just never really bothered/cared to show anyone that I did. I just been having more and more fun these days riding strapless. Different conditions call for different riding.. I just pick the best for that day.
