He was keeping it pretty laid back at Altona, his foot was playing up and it was to shallow and I think he wanted to stay away from the chop(deeper water)out the back.

I thought there must have been a storm comming, kiting away, look up, and most of the other kiters had headed in,did'nt know what was going on, untill a wind surfer pasted by and said a sponsured rider was there.

All I can say is, even though he had toned things down a bit, the dude must eat his weatbix, some of those unhooked handle passes whilst boosting ect.... "must have a grip of steel"

Most of the dutchies fly their slingshots with 4 20m lines instead of 5 23m lines. You should try it! it is really sick. I fly my fuels with 5 20m lines, eayer to relaunch

> and don't forget the fuels are juels

@THe other guy who said that kiting without boardshort is gay : ruben told us that kiting down under is like a hype. It doens't mather wether you do a kitloop hp or a kungfu flat spin, you just have to be cool. He is going to learn you guys what kiting's really about

but up top its more like 20 -30.
It seams to have another layer of wind up top, which is graet to boost up in too. hope too c u there.

hey inout,
i hope your a chick cause I was just reading about the pt. henry / geeelong crew on the RAL IN post.
With spots like "condom beach" and people like "vain mark the gay kiter" any desperate invite to "Ruben" sounds all a bit sordid. I know people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones (sh1thotkiter), but "in out" is a pretty suspect cover if all you want to do is talk kiting with mr. len10.

Hey Guys,

Nice vids and all and yes Ruben is a talented rider, but I don't see what all the fuss is about. Any day of the week you can go to Woodies and see riding of equal calibre from a bunch of the WA young guns, most of who do not run around with all the fanfare and idolatry.

Go hard the WA crew!

Good winds,

I take your point Kitehard.
But consider this " anyday of the week you can stand on the rocks at Snapper Pt or Kirra and watch any number of super talented groms pulling into overhead barrells (swell permitting ) but it still does not compare to watching the likes of Kelly , Occ, AI or Fanning smash the same line up. "
Same with watching Ruben ride.

Sure there are plenty of young guns up and coming who are incredibly talented and great to watch but they are not there yet. If they were they would be picked up by sponsors and would be headed off around the world and they may well be doing that soon. But right now Ruben and a number of other world beating riders have got the credentials so please just allow us to enjoy.
Ps : You can appreciate a talented sportsperson without idolising. Just watch in silence at a distance.

Thanks to your Vid she kinda understands what all the fuss was about now.

Now she will think you are GAY !!

Oh yeah I am with Kitehard on this one.

to compare lenten to the likes of fanning, Kelly, AI is possibly the most stupid thing you have ever done, the level that kelly/fanning/AI are at in surfing compared to some grom is absolutley bullsh#t. however the level that lenten is at in kiteboarding or say felix or tobias are at in kitesurfing is no better than heaps of other groms (and older crew) around australia and the world. wise up.

My level of mentality is quite high. High enough to not rely on hero worship. Rather get out there and do stuff myself!

I gotta say:” some of you people are unbelievable".

I for one, don’t read the kite mag's, have seen one kite surfing DVD and never heard of Ruben Lenten until this thread. He is to date though, the best kiter I have seen in action so far and maybe it was the best kiting Harry Potter has seen also. I have seen local kiters pull the same moves, but not continuously at the rate he was pulling em. If you've got local kiter's at your spots doing the same or better that's great, but you’ all are sounding a bit up yourselves and elitist As far as the idol thing goes, when he was down at Altona it was all pretty laid back, we took some vid's/pic's for about 10 minutes then when back to kiting, .Are all you knocker's a bit green or something, sorry, but that's the way its coming across?

As far as the supporting the local crew, I posted a vid on youtube about 4 weeks ago of a local kiter, and since then it's had 104 views and I posted the vid of Lenten, 2 day's ago and it's had over 1500 views, so maybe one of you experts can tell me why he is so popular and how does one go about supporting their local crew?

I'm not trying to be a smart arse, if you’ve got vid of local kiters pulling good moves, put it on youtube and I’ll post it on my site. Someone posted one of "I think it was of carbine" and that's the best of seen so far, made me think how much I have to learn.

Steve, I know what your saying, but Len10 has only gotten to where is is, as like other kiter's and especially surfers, because he has been not only promoted by his local crew, but he is a WELL KNOWN NAME. He has his own clothes, brand, gear etc... he is who he is beacause of the sponsorship. If the local guys approached the shops, stores etc... Got their name out-there with what they can do, THEY too can get somewhere. It truly isn't that hard.

The big deal with the 'local crew' is to try and get OUR own great aussie guys up there. Give em a head strong push and try to help to get them sponsored. Try to cut them some sort of deal. Half of why Len10 is where is is now, is because he puts his body on the line to land ****. Yeah he does it flawlessly without a worry in the world, but when you seem to have the time to travel the world like he does now, it's something rare. I'm sure if we had wind all the time, endless kites, boards, gear etc., and all the traveling time and filming time in the world, yall would be great too. Imagine being able to get one of your own crew up there like that.

Just the aussie spirit imo. Thats all I was trying to get across really. I don't deny what he lands is great, but as compared to before... As Rowdy said... I agree... There is NO comparison in this sport to Slater, Irons, Beachley or Gilmore.

Get the aussie riders out there... Support em [}:)]

Yeh, I suppose it's a case of getting to a level like Ruben and keeping the body intact. I must be getting old, somewhere around the age of 40, you look in the mirror and think to yourself,” how the ****h did that happen". With some of the moves he was pulling off in very shallow water, I thought," you gotta be kidding", It wasn’t so much the danger/hurt factor, but at the time I was thinking, "dude, it's your living, bang yourself up big time and it's over red rover"., then I thought, that's why he is where he is". Catch 22, you've gotta run the gauntlet.

Well, I’m inspired, I've got a week at Sandy Point (Vic) in a couple of weeks and I'm gunna give this unhooked caper a go,” pain is gain right"

Theres nothing wrong with Ruben ( except hes Eurotrash ! )

Theres nothing wrong with watching him ride (Just a flat water trick specialist)

but there is something wrong if you have to rant and rave on a Forum that you saw HIM ! Or to your girlfriend, who will think you are gay!

Hey " User " & " Kitehard " it would seem that Ruben may have just been spotted a Woodies maybe you guys should get down there doubletime and show him just how good the two of you are ( perhaps even show him up ) .
Ps : I hope you dont get caught staring at him or commenting to ur mates on how good a move was. That would be kinda hypocritical.

In fact if your comments are true no one will even notice that he is out. As everone ele will be riding just as hard. fools !

hey user.

Seriously if you think Ruben is just a flat water trick specialist, you should check out his wiin in red bull king of the air 2006.

Massives waves in Hawaii were part of the components to be crowned.

Not only is he epic in flat, but he is outstanding in waves.

Dont be so sore towards the pro's.

He represents the sport and his sponsors brilliantly.

I dont know about WA but I just spent 2 months kiting overseas around Mauritius, capetown, Langebaan and sodwana bay etc. No one even came close to how spectacular Ruben was to watch.

I have never been to WA but I find it hard to believe you can see this kind of kiting "any day"

Come to WA Andrewm.

honestly the level of talent from the lads here is pretty damn awesome.

You probably wonder why they are not competing etc than?

Most are studying things such as physio, chiropractics, engineering etc. So not only are they wikid sticks kiters, they are also brainy Ruubn jus happens to do kiting for a living.

Some just choose their life as such
