looks good but is it tough enough to handle the abuse i give out ( already have 2 ss surfboards that couldn't ) awsome to ride but about as strong as a paper cup when jumping .
I think a decent wood deck is going to help durability. they look cool. Fast track on surfboards for people who ride strapped is going to be an improvement on strap placement
I think its a Quad.... Notice the two holes either side of the board for the tuttle box screws. Can be a twin fin as well.
The fish looks like such a good light wind board. When can we expect to be able to demo these in Oz?
Yes, as of October the Octane will no longer be made.and the rally is the replacement. Slingshot want to get rid of pulleys alltogether. This kite has a minimal bridle, but pulleys=wear points. it is a slightly different shape to the other delta C's on the market. It has a centre strut like a wainman, but not as deep.
Been nicknamed the toenail. but relaunches as good as any.
i wonder if the rally's going to be any cheaper with so much less materials put into it? i might actually be able to afford a brand new kite for once!
umm not sure when demo gear will be sent out to distributors but i rode the rally on the weekend. i would do a review but it was sort of raining and super gusty, so it was really hard to tell how it will go in a good wind. first impressions were good and the new darkside and boots are sick.
the boots lace up system is really good and you can really pull them up tight. apparently there will also be an OT kite specific boot with velcro but i didnt get to see this one. as far as i can tell you should be able to put any binding on the board because of the new fast track system, so you wont need to be drilling base plates to get them to fit.
the boards also have a new bottom sheet on them which is like some sort of plastic. havent ridden the darkside yet but it looks like you might be able to ride it finless because of the channels/concaves in the bottom.
can't really comment on the lunacy and misfit etc at this stage because i didnt really have a proper look at them. i will see if i can get some pics up asap.
The little fish is called the "DIALER" it has lots of volume and is very good for light winds too.
Length: 5'10"
Width: 20.7"
Thickness: 2.37"
its a quad fin with Bamboo Construction.
I like that little sucker on the far right. That's a nice looking little board.
And no Octane?? WTF??
I wonder what this Rally thing is going to be like? It looks nice but I'm trying hard to see where it fits into the picture.
No REV, No Octane?
I wish Slingshot could get some consistency in their kites like other brands rather than changing names etc all the time. The Fuel is the only thing that has remained consistent throughout the years.
Changing the name is maybe reflective of the change in actual kite design, rather than just keeping the name for familiarity sake.
North Rhino is classic example of this.
What does it matter what its name is Jordy? U will complain and go on about it and say u will never buy one baceause of the new name but at the end of the day u know u will!
Ur also going to add a new surfboard to ur collection are u? Shouldnt u at least ride the 2 brand new slinger surfboards u bought last year before u upgrade?
I've ridden both of them so far. Just not for long!! And they were bought this year.
No harm in adding another one to the collection. I won't sell the old ones, I"ll just add with a new one. Have to spend my millions somewhere you know!
And you're right, I probably will buy one but I'll be riding these before I buy one unlike the Octanes which I just bought.
And if they are not coming out in the 9,11, 13 combo then I won't be buying them at all and having a good hard look at the Liquid Force!
The split strut is still based on the same principle of intergrated strut and canopy. However, it has been made differently this time so it works better and can be repaired without having to unstich the entire strut. I was always a fan of splitstrut, good to see it return.
So Rowdy i know you havent flown the Rally but what would be the difference between the Octane and the Rally in the air.
Flew the rally 10 today in flat conditions
usually fly rev 1's 9&13 (for last 2 1/2 yrs)
The wind was a dodgy westerly, by the time I got there it was droping off
It turned quicker than the 9rev
I thought about the same power as the 9rev
Relaunch was no fus
Drifts back good
Should have better depower
Less briddle and no pullys is a good thing
Has a slightly longer bar than Iam used to with the 9rev
It does have some batten type things in the trailing edge, like thick wippa snippa cord, I guess to help prevent flutter with less struts (i didn't count them, but I think it had less struts, was more interested in kiting than taking notice how it was built:)
And the biggest difference is the lofty jumps
This thing has huge potential to get massive height and floaty jumps in consistant winds
