I have am planning a week in a pacific island with wife + baby of 1 year old at the end of July. Would you have a tip, recommendation, advise between Samoa, Fiji of Cook Island for a good compromise of good kiting + nice area for the family or days with not wind?

Thanks !

Thanks Ral Inn, looks good.

Flyind from Auckland Samoa looks a lot cheaper than Fiji. Is the north of Savaii the place to go?

Cook Islands is the pick of the 3, but also the most expensive and hardest to get to.

If you are asking about the main island of Fiji where Ellington wharf is then my answer is Yes.

Trade winds blow from bottom right of map to top left so you get a compression of wind along the coast that releases at Ellington area. and boosts an extra 5kts or so.
last 2 times at 15days each we ripped all but 3 days.

By 2nd week we were looking forward to a no wind day to try out the no wind activities we negotiated for, Snorkelling, Kayaking, fishing, wakeboarding.

should have better video from this next trip with both the Video camera and the helmet cam to get footage from, plus a jetski as added boat support.

went to nananu i ra 2 yrs back, nice place but the kiting is ordinary. **** launch and land areas, shallow rocky/ reefy areas which isnt too nice on the feet or when you crash. I'll not be going back there for a kite trip, plenty better spots.

I was reading an old forum about kiting in the Cook Islands.
I was particulary interested in Aitutaki island. There was talk of organizing a trip this winter. Did anything come of it? There was even a travel agent who was interested in organizing it, is he still around? Keen for August if there are other interested parties?

Yea, I'm still around. Check www.boarderpatrol.com.au
We can organize a trip to Aitutaki. I don't have it on the website yet because we don't have
enough photos yet to make it look good but from all accounts it's great. Would be similar in price to Tonga and similar logistics to get to.- Requires a domestic connection as well as the international flight. Contact me at jon@boarderpatrol.com.au if you want more info or phone 1800 611 103. Both Tonga and the Cooks would be great destinations with the wife and baby.
Cheers

There are a bunch of NZ kiters heading up to Aitutaki mid-August:

It's an awesome spot, waist deep sandy bottom for ages. I think it picks up a bit more wind than Raro too. Unfortunately the airfares seem to be relatively more expensive than the other islands this year.

I'm going to give Samoa a go late August and take a surf-board as well. I haven't done much research but it sounds as if can be tricky to find a spot to launch from.
