I'm going to Sandringham at the end of the month to visit a friend. Is that a decent kite spot or is there a better place a short drive away? Also, is the St Kilda live wind reading the closest and most accurate for that area? Cheers, Dan

You can go to Hampton beach, it's a decent spot. Otherwise kite beach at brighton and st kilda also work.

Fawkner beacon is the closest for that area.

Thanks buddy. I can walk up to Hampton from where im staying. Hopefully the wind gods come through with the goods. Looks like i'll only be needing my 12m.

You'll as likely need an 8 as a 12. We can get 30 knots any time of year.

Thanks djdojo, I wish I could bring my entire quiver of kites and boards. Makes me appreciate being able to chuck it all in the back of my ute and somedays use 3 diff kites in one afternoon. Don't have an 8 so need to decide between a 7 and 9. Maybe the 7 cos i'll be spewing if i miss out on a cranking session, and it is my favourite size.

This time of year it's a bit of a lottery. Most of the wind we get now will come with a westerly front and the range can vary from 10 to 35.

I'd bring a smaller size though than the 12. If you are only here for a short time then it'd be better to have one decent session on a small kite than a couple of average ones on the 12.

Good chance that you will get some strong Northerlies during the month of May

Over winter southwest winds are rare. Westerlies and Northwest can be good at Hampton and Brighton. Northerlies can be ok at Brighton for experienced kiters.

Had a nice upwind tour yesterday from Hampton to Ricketts, finishing at Sandringham
