I use a Mystic Warrior... I wear it quite lose to allow the harness to slide sideways when going toe side.... works a treat! And even better it allows me to breathe !!
The only trick is that you have to invert the buckle metal thing otherwise it can open whilst riding...
Hi, here are my versions of the sliding / rolling harness. It is for those (like myself) who can't/don't use a waist harness.
Version 1. spreader hook is sliding on a rope attached to an extra long spreader bar.
Version 2. spreader hook is attached to a pulley for really easy move.
It appears that the hook is sliding very easily without the pulley....pray for some wind and I tell the rest of the story......
Hey, Good Evening,
I tried my system today, and I can tell it works a TREAT. I tried without a pulley, and it seems to slide fine. Some remarks though.
1. the spreader bar does not need to be extra long. In fact it can be normal, or even short. It is due to the hook sliding on an elliptical curve, which is a bit more close to a circle when the two center points are closer (the two ends of the bar). At this stage it is only theory, as I have not tried this on a short bar.
2. The hook likes to stay on 3 points: at the two ends of the bar (for toe side riding) and in the middle for cruising. It is due to the way the power is distributed along the elliptical curve (theory...don't worry about this). The transition between the 3 points has been quite smooth, but still needs some "getting used to it" to stay in balance. I expect smoother transition between the 3 points when using a shorter bar.
3. The hook slides better on thicker rope with smooth surface. ( I use a pair of 6mm dynema)
So......it's all sweet......The seat harness acts as braces fixating the lumbar spine, yet I have full rotation for a very comfy toe side ride and jibe, and the transition is quick and smooth enough for my level of wave riding. .....I will post some photos when I get my final version.......
Hi,
A final note on this......I had two sessions so far using the sliding hook, and it lifted my wave-riding at least one level (from 0 to 1...may be) It gives a natural feel for any hip rotations, as I don't rotate against the pull of the kite. Jibe, turns, toe side riding became quite natural and easy....and I am still in my seat harness...
In case someone wants to play with it:
1. wider person needs longer bar (I changed mine to a shorter one).
2. the rope can be a bit looser for smoother transition for the hook between the 3 major points, but not too loose so that it does not compromise depower.
3. unless you have long arm, it is good to use shortened hook and chicken loop...again for maintaining depower range.
Here are a few photos....have a great session.....looks awesome today in WA
