My friend went expecting 3 or 4 kiters and was unpleasantly surprised. Pimpers killed it.

Lakeys is such a sick place. Haven't kited there but there was a few liters in camp (nov) and they got no wind. But who cares when the peak pumps.

I stayed at the Mona Lisa (I think that's the name) way cheaper than aman gati and perfect if you just wanna be in the water all day. I thought the gati was way overpriced.

Have fun.

Is la stari (spelling?) still there?
Alex(heard he opened his own losmen)was one of the workers ,Annie and Toddy use to run it.
It was to the left of Mona Lisa's(if your looking at the surf)
How about Fat ma's(I think it was called),right up the end in front of pipe,,they use to have some wicked food.

Fatmas is still there, good food and good view.
Anyone know the name of the place pretty much directly inline with the tower, and it has a two storey eating area. Also had a shop and table tennis table?

2008, paddling out to the peak in the pre dawn dark to beat the crowd, find 5 surfers already in the water. By the time the sun comes up over the mountain, about 30 in the water. Like all named surf breaks in Indonesia, great waves but more crowded than Bondi. Not worth the effort in my opinion.

Aman Gati
I went there 2 years ago with some mates, had a great time. Yes it was the most expensive hotel on the beach but when you meet other surfers staying elsewhere and they talk about how cheep there accommodation is - also ask how the bed bugs bite?

Nah, I think were thinking of different places. Isn't Aman Gati the one that has the orange sub out the front?

This one in 2008 had a spare block of land beside it, enter this into googlemaps: -8.804661,118.382629

Same in 2010...Walked 30min in the dark to Periscopes and paddled out before sun up to find a few people already in the water.
If you have decided on Lakeys then I would recommend Aman Gati. Great spot. I will never go back due to the crowds / attitudes in the surf.
Only 3 Kiters there which was some relief. (Late July was pretty consistent.)
Have fun.

They had a tragic earth quake just recently and the reef is submerged 3 metres. Completely stuffed all the waves.

fk! that all sounds terrible, though i was expecting it to b busy.

Bit harder but might go further i think, havent surfed a heap in recent yrs and that crowd sounds crap. But the combo of surf in the morn and kite in the arvo is what im lking for :)

thanks for the input

It's logical that this has happened though:
Bondi is an awful place with awful surf and 6 individual prawns costs $30
Indo is a great place with great surf and 6 buckets of prawns costs $30.
