Awesome clip - I think the knee injury was good for his technique, he came back from it pre thinking the moves and landing smoother making it all look even better..

Cool vid, but is world champion the dude that can do the most twists and throw the bar behind his back most in one move? Didn't seem to be any style to it???

Agreed times infinity. Been watching heaps of vids and real life stuff trying to convince myself its worth watching. Naaaah, crapola. Skillful but to an audience gay as Mardi gra and completetly introspective. Nah not convinced, the early pioneers like the flash, shinn and Nash had it right, get some BS height then do that stuff, now that would be cool, and gets some fluidity!! But I will get hammered again for saying it again, but its not the way to go, you'll all realize that soon enough.

I thought the riding was good but the voice actor annoyed me. Style is subjective so no point trying to convince others that A>B style. For me he does pretty well to recreate the cable/wake style of riding.

The one footer back to blind was cool also I thought :)

Most kiters on SB < Kids on Z-flexs at skatepark.
Both of which understand and appreciate sweet FA about the boardsport that they are loosely a part of.

Youri kills it. Voice-over was aids.

^^^^++++1, Happy new year sir.

I think (only my opinion) that some peeps need to download the vid and watch it at 1/3 speed to get a handle on what he's doing. His technicality and amplitude is impressive without resorting to lunchtime. The RPM helps, although a C-kite (yes its bridled) it gives less pop and drop, good for Youri's knees. He has the perfect style between wakeboarding and kiting, and I think the PKRA changes to find a happy medium towards judjing has been a good thing, Aaron Hadlow would probably disagree.

You lads obviously dont know much about freestyle and how much hard effort and talent it takes to get to such a level!
I hope you will get the chance to see a PKRA Freestyle event sometime. The riding those guys do is absolutely mind-blowing. Most of you cant even boost as high as these guys pop, especially Youri.

BTW this post is to give Youri some credits, do that or leave it, nuff said!

I have seen a PKRA pro right in front of my eyes and I know exactly how hard it is (and hence why i can't do it). Just think, it is awesome for us experienced kiters but for the public, which equals coverage, which equals sponsorship, which equals growth it is boring as bat Sh1t. Do you know what introspective means in context to my use of the word - it gets close to what I am saying. I know I'm a lone voice and I get slammed every time, but I just don't buy it man. Nor will the public.

Rather watch kelly later or Mick Fanning crank pipeline as that is what seperates surfing on its own. Wakeboard stuff, ho hum...wait and see, just wait and see.

Youri is a farqin legend by the way.

the future is boots. Everything is way more stylish and smooth. guys aren't forcing rotations when they're throwing in boots. keep the spins to a minimum and the style to a maximum.

this is the future in hardcore kiteboarding with boots or without.
with straps you can go faster than with boots so you get more speed and pop bigger.

the best will be the one that does it all, faster, higher more powered and tech than others.

NextmYears PKRA will be huge with all top blokes returning and few new comers stepping it up all in live stream and hopefully we all get to witness some crazy comp action in Woodies in 2012 in 30knts-watch Youri in 25+ on his 9m.

No, you're wrong.

I do understand what he is doing is hard and technical, but if I wanted to watch wake boarding I would've headed down to the river. As eppo said, it doesn't look good, most will see it as dangly, flicky, out of control spins. When I watch those videos I see no style.

Horse's for courses, Kittens for mittens!?

Yeh the PKRA dude i watched had boots. I just thought he was some dude from perth blowing on a local spot, that I have seen only me and my bro kite for 5 years, but they were all really cool, we had a laugh. Anyhow we set up, and he took to and the water before us, my bro and i were like ' we'll show them'. anyhow he came in and did this back handle pass thingy, with rotation landing to blind - what ever the farq they call it and we were like 'what the farq!'. Needless to say we didn't go out, just sat there in awe!

Still, I stand by what i said before. Damn it was hilarious - the look on my bro's face was priceless - ha ha, and chris from stitched up was laughing his nut off at us (He one the British championship this year) - and this was with pussy lame wind as well!!

How'd ya know!! Okay here's some context.

First one we happen to see the british champion at a distant local spot, and it was impressive.

Second one i was saying if they do this technical wakeboard Sh1te, 20 foot in the air, with the flow and grace of the early pioneers such as Shinn, naish and flash, then I'm all up for it and will change my stance. Until they seperate themselves from wakeboarding then to me it is crapola.

I do appreciate what they r doing but to me it's the same as freestyle motor cross awesome skills but boring seen it once seen it all type stuff.Would much rather watch a legit super x race where u can see what the bikes can really do, like wise would prefer to see what the kite can really do not just see them being used as a cable park.

I too have no interest in wake board tricks. if i was interested i'd watch wake boarding.

Sure those guys have mad skills and they hammer themselves to death learning the stuff. I'd rather see a decent wave vid, a guy jumping off a crane or over a road amuses me, somebody freeriding through mangroves that sort of stuff. I also like to see some old school boosting.

Haters gotta hate.

I have a lot of respect for the technical skills in this competition. And I dont think wakeboarding can come close to the tricks these guys are pulling off...

But personally I have no interest in learning handle passes, and so I understand why some people might feel the sport is short-selling itself by putting so much focus/importance on it.

Having said that; I don't really want the sport to get much bigger than it is. Beaches are getting crowded all over the world, bringing with it restrictions and rules... Have any of you ever been to Tarifa (Spain) in July or August? 1000 kites on one beach, traffic jams in the sky... Nah man that sucks.

Less is more.

Oh and Youri - class act. If you aint Dutch...
