How awesome is this program. This is content aware fill. Just select the area you want to remove, select delete and then use content aware fill to automatically fill it in.

At this rate I can have myself doing slim chances in my living room without even having to get wet.

Yeah i watched another one of that where the dude deleted a tree and a chick sitting on a bench... and another where he deleted a road completely out of a picture. Can't believe how well it works.

Wow that's quite impressive!
Apparently the algorithm is not only interpolating colours, but also bottom contours, even though they don't have that much of a pattern.

One "black hat" application of this could be the ability to remove watermarks..

Its obviously not perfect, for example, removing the kite is not quite as successful which is why I didn't put it in, but if you are doing photos of people you could quite easily remove pimples etc.

The thing that impresses me is that its so simple and if you don't like the result, you can just do the area again and get a different result. I did that with the bottom right corner to show you could do the same area twice and get a slightly different result.

Here is the actual results

Before

After

Is this a new feature in CS5?

May just need to upgrade from CS4, even though this kind of thing has little much use for web design, it is cool!

Yeah, the two major new features are HDR and Content Aware fill.

The HDR feature saves you having to take multiple exposures of the same picture to get the same effect although obviously if you use a single picture, the noise is likely to be higher on some of the older model cameras.

CS5's content aware fill is good for the lazy but if you want it done properly your going to need to put in a bit more effort with cloning and blending.

If you know how the algorithm works then you can spot where it's sampling from.
The best example is look at the filled section of the sky, and pay close attention to the dark bottom edge of the cloud - now look about 3-4cm to the left and you'll see the same pattern repeated.
