Excuse me, is'nt this guy a pro

I would imagine anywhere in the world you get these conditions guy's would be doing the same sort of stuff, maybe better depending on how you look at it.

To me, he doesn't look like someone from a surfing background, just not fluent enough.

Not intending to be negative, but there are heaps of guy's not getting filmed doing same or better. certainly looks fun and that's what counts

What an odd reply ?? ^^^
lol.
Are you depressed, Sammy ?

You know,
Not only is Mitu's powered riding totally hardcore, but like all quality wavekiting clips,
not to mention good surf vids as well.....
It's always the wave that is the object of beauty.
It hypnotizes me as I mentally surf the face.

Yesssss I'm depressed, it's fricken summer dude. I'm surprised by your comments to slave as you never seem to have any time for surfboards in the sport from conversations we've had. I've turned up at your local strapped and unstrapped but you still think it's all about your mutant/hybrid thingy....What do you call it anyway, just for the record??

By the show of red thumbs it seems I've upset some ppl somehow. I said it looks fun, I'm just not getting to carried away about it, he's a pro on his forehand in very nice conditions. Seriously what did you expect. I've kited Gnaraloo when Ryland was out, he was way more impressive than that.

All I said was that there's heaps of guy's probably doing the same around the globe but not in front of a camera. Didn't mean to upset the Mitu fans, he looks like an awesome rider. I'd love to have those conditions not far from home, unfortunately we have to travel 8 to 12 hours and I hate traveling.

So is he from a surfing back ground or not

Keep the clips coming love any surf clips

I find the mitu clips a bit more enjoyable to watch.
The ben wilson ones in this thread are a bunch of one move edits, which get a bit repetitive.
At least you get to see mitu on more of the wave having heaps of fun.
I wish we had conditions like that in Newy, would luv to have a go in offshore like that.

This example of the fully-powered hardcore style of wavekiting is probably not to your liking, Sammy.
Maybe you prefer the lurching, stick-up-your-arse, strapless style of riding.
That's fine, there are no rules, man.
Mitu seems very comfortable in the barrel while flying a kite.
I can only guess that he has a surfing background.
lol.
And for your record, the kiteboard I ride is called a single-finned double ender.

i was going to post the same comment about ben wilsons moves in video clips, i have watched his unknown road and spare change a squilion times so i do like his ridding ...but as you say its unhook one turn and if lucky two turns than cut to next scene.

the clips in first post and ben wilsons styled clips both are enjoyable to watch but totally different approaches to wave riding, mitu is kitesurfing and ben is surfkiting , then we have the offshore wave versus the onshore mush conditions which tend to work better for one style over the other.

mitu waves would close out i bet in onshore where bens style would be impossible to unhook and not get pulled out the back in offshore at least from the video i have seen of him in those conditions. the unhooked kite drift method versus the kite depower method

offshore winds is far easier to kitesurf imho although purist would say you might as well go for a surf.

anyhow enjoy what you have!

I’m with Wdric - what’s missing for me in the Ben Wilson clips is seeing how he plays with the whole wave. The single hits are nothing special – they can be seen on a good day at any decent surf kiting spot. Seeing how he links them all up, particularly on a decent wave (with a kite), would make all the difference to me.

Mitu rides with the wave with a beautiful and relaxed playful style – he obviously knows it well. Personally I love his surfing/kiting fusion – the boosting out of the wave, the floaters along the lip - but the snaps under the lip and the coverups are straight from surfing.

I can’t see how surf kiting will ever be surfing, as the influence of the kite can be reduced but the kite just won’t go away. What the kite takes away from pure surfing of the wave it gifts back as a second source of power and an enhanced ability to fly and float. I think it’s the joining of these two disciplines that will evolve into the main surf kiting style.

Having said that – I don’t really care what style anyone rides – I kite for fun

and I love seeing wave kiting clips - so keep em coming

A surfer friend of mine watched the Mitu videos and said:

"with a wave that good, why would you bother with a kite - just surf it!"

A lively discussion followed, and the interesting thing that came out was that we are lucky to have so many different tools at our disposal to allow us to express ourselves while interacting with the ocean.

Surfboards.....longboards....kneeboards......stand up paddle boards....tow-boards....

boards with added kitepower......strapped TT's, strapped mutants, strapped surfboards, unstrapped surfboards.....

boards with added sail power......all the flavours of sailboarding.....

Each format allows a slightly different way of interacting with the ocean and its wind and waves. If I lived at Cabo Verde, no doubt I would surf the wave some days, kite it strapped on others, and kite it unstrapped on yet others. For a blast from the past you might even dredge out the sailboard and see what that allowed you to do! I've seen video of Mitu doing all the above, and his fluid power style is evident across the spectrum.

I tend to agree with Puppet and Hunter - the fusion of kite and small strapped wave board allows the freedom to hit the critical sections with incredible power and speed, and adds the freestyle dimension as well. That is where kitesurfing is really unique. Pretty exciting combo!

keep the vids coming.

...and some wind for NQ wouldn't be bad either........

And then I just come back here and watch it over and over again, the music is cool too. But I looked at Cape Verde a bit and don't know if I would want to live there...but visit, yes.

Just saw the strapless one, and that seems equally cool.........fark, where is this sport going

that mitu guy is loose as a goose.

the rest so far look restricted by the strings that restrict them.

perhaps trying to look like a real surfer when you are actually being pulled along by a thing in the air might look a bit like cheating............but busting air big time off the lip.........priceless.

That would have to be the best attempt I have seen of riding waves that offshore.

Looks like such a fun spot. Any one know where it is

Yeah, it's on the island of Sal, Cape Verde. This spot is one of about 4 good wave spots on Sal. This would be around Dec-Feb, when the Atlantic pumps down enormous swells up to 7 m. This spot has claimed more kites than I can remember due to it bein offshore. When it hits 7m a good thing when you wanna escape as one part closes out quite fast. The entry sucks as you have a down wind sand beach with huge shorebreak, or the rocks where everyone enters. I worked there for 5 months teachin kiting in 04. Actually rescued Mitu from drowning after a handlepass gone wrong and came down hard on his leg. Scared the crap out of me. Lebeche is on the other end of the beach and goes off too. Just don't loose you're kite and have to swim 4 45mins to try to get in against the current heading to Brazil. This is one of my favourite spots for waves.

As a surfer who kites-didn't really like the Guilly one that much-lacked flow-too jerky and the spin/handle pass sh!t-you can keep that-Mitu's clips were heaps better (granted the waves were heaps better).

That's cool Bruce, goes to show doesn't matter what your riding as long as your having fun. He looks like a big guy that could throw some spray on a short board to.

What size mal is that??? My guess would be around 9ft and a thruster, either way he's turning it well for a big board. I see ocean rodeo do a kite for SUP boards, that's going a bit to far I think.

But whatever floats ya boat I guess

All I can say is that he probably looks a bit jerky due to the fact that Mokes tends to be a bit bumpy and hard to judge sometimes, unless ur Felix, Brian or Tophat. Check this footage from Peru, wild stuff

As for his wave 360's I think he's pushing the boundaries of wave riding. But again each to their own.
