Way to wreck my holiday. Where are the Japanese when you need them.

Thats a bit of a worry
Cant they haul it out or bury it or do something with it?
Would it affect tombies?

My thoughts exactly. Apparently they can't get permission to do anything with it. Turtles is a good 6 or 7 km's from Toombies. But I guess it depends on which way the currents take the oil

LAst time I saw a whale carcass in the exmouth gulf a few years ago the slick from the oil went a long, long way. It was a calm afternoon and you could see the slick going out towards the murion islands.

If with the prevailing southerlies that slick will more than likely head north and it will pull in the nasties from a long way away.
There is some footage of a white pointer having a go at a carcass (and the zodiac filming it) from about 2002 /3 . This was in Exmouth . So its a fair chance that you might get a pointer or two hanging around the burley slick.

YOu might have to cancel gnaraloo and head further north. Go exploring plenty more reef all the way to Exmouth......

So with a howling southerly the slick will go straight past tombies

No tacks too far out

Hmmm not sure that's such a good idea. This was done at Swanbourne Beach around 10 years ago, whale washed up on the beach and the SAS blew it up. The remains were buried in the sand.
Dive boat operators reckoned it leached oil for a couple of years. In that time there were 2 shark attacks - one on a surf ski paddler, who was OK and the second on a swimmer who died.

That was a local dive operator/videographer and he was about to jump in with it when it turned on the boat. Next day he decided an ally boat was better.
