during my last session i realised my quad fins on my Wham were pushed outwards towards the rails... closer inspection the fin housing is cracked and warped...
im pretty sure the fins were tight but not overboard as i didnt want to strip the screws or anything.. just wondering if anyone had same problem or why this happened? im either thinking the fins loosened up during the session or im unlucky with the quality of the board i got
also anyone know of a way to repair this? she rides a bit loose at the moment?
Saw it on a mate's Whip last year. Fin housing cracked and fin dropped out under the pressure of a turn. i think it was fixed under warranty.
Talk to your local North guy, if has happened to others they might be receptive to assisting with a solution.
Otherwise can be fixed by by your local ding repairer, will prob come back stronger that it was originally.
From memory his board felt a little soft along the rail after the board gave way, but this is understandable if the fin box has pivoted on it's axis.
This movement resulted in a bit a water being sucked into the board along the box in the space it created when it pivoted, just mentioning this because it takes it out of the realm of a home repair wit a bit of Solarez.
yeah but when youve been wind starved for a week and a half and been sitting in peak hour you tend to jump in the water with your work gear still on
Had the same issue with my 2012 WAM. Fin box came loose. Drilled a series of holes around the finbox and filled them with Epoxy and presto! Box is fixed back in place!
Personally i have had a lot of issues with the 2012 WAM. Nose looked like it had nearly no glass on the front and just fell apart. Lots of demlaination issues. Finbox came loose. Heel dents. I have now sanded back the top deck, rebuilt the nose with addional glass (drift wood protection) reglassed my fix boxes and installed some carbon rails on the front section that was starting to crack... its bullet proof now + custom paint job.
^^^I used the same technique on my North Kontact fin box, but I lifted the rear deck grip and carefully drilled down from the deck. If you poke some wire into the holes you can create some voids around the fin box, and then use a syringe to inject resin into the voids. Make sure the fin angles are all correct, let it set and glue the deck grip bak down. Worked great.
