Good discussion! Kite heads are more complex than windsurfers.
As a 25 year polie taking up kiting this year, my aspirations are tighter more vertical wave riding and huge floaty jumps. Neither achieved yet.
My best mate in England's son grew up wave riding and is now a pro kitesurfer ( Tom court ) and he does it all, but obstacles and wake board style i reckon is his number #1.
Maybe kiting is like windsurfing 30 years ago, where there are many cools.
But I do think waves are best!
A very entertaining video but where has all the love on this site gone.
How come a good Vid that has nothing to do with wakestyle brings out all the wakestyle verses old school haters?
And one other thing :
Plummet if you believe wakestyle is just a fad, you are in serious need of a history lesson in kitesurfing. Wakestyle has been around since the Wipika Classic was the most advanced kite on the market. Wakestyle is as old as old school.
yeah like to see more vids like that. he slashes some waves, boosts some big airs does some tricks. Much more entertaining than 3 mins current wake styling vid.
post up more do it all vids. thats what its all about.
ps thats one crazy wierd board he's riding.
Another Great vid. Still get inspired by that. That was from a video called 'High' a time before Freeride, freestyle, old school, new school, wakestyle, wavesailing, course, strapped and unstrapped, and all the other phrases coined by kite manufacturers, it was just, all called kitesurfing.
The board is a Jimmy Lewis Picklefork. The design was taken up by Liquid force in 2000 and was one of the first production board available that you could hold enough power with to boost big.
I used to ride one of the early-ish Jimmy lewis boards - damn what was it called? Actually used it from 2003/4 to 2009, just loved it, held such an awesome edge. I got it off Jason at west oz (well that is what it is called now)...great board, wind hungry though.
Yeh Wainmen is a special kind of kiter....seen him on a SB!
Whilst I respect the skill, I reckon toby has opened the door to criticism by referring to himself as "the most progressive air styler" and all the toe pointing. Its a great video but there were better ways to do it without opening the door to this. He refers to style but some of the tricks look like he's trying to do too much and no more stylish than some of the double handlepass dangles.
Miss my old picklefork.
151 Picklefork, Boots & Waves = Massive Boosting, Slashing FUN!
If anyones got one laying around, i'll gladly take it off your hands.
