Considering the latest Weather phenoma, will WAKSA make the call about Kitestock - and postpone. (I do realise that catering etc is involved but it is still early)

It was unbelievably difficult trying to T-up kitestock between work and family, and I am not going to waste time and money if the wind SUCS and lying on the beach.

I am holding thumbs, toes and anythink that I can cross for good winds.

Cheers
Rich

Any forecast more than 2 days out is pure fallacy. Dreamt up by consulting tea leaves and chicken entrails.
Geez, head up, have fun Plenty of kiting crew to catch up with and share the stoke.
Just means that beer o'clock comes sooner.
We book our Gnaraloo trip 4-6 months out. We don't pull the pin cause of a dodgy forecast.
HTFU Stefan!

Hmmmmm,

Might be a good spearfishing weekend. The Spanish should be running by about now Any local spearo's know . Thinking about leaving all the kites at home and bringing the boat and dive gear.

Sitting on the beach sweating for three days getting sunburnt has knobs on it!

I'm from the east coast, trying to work out which weather station is closest or offers the best prediction? The port Denison station seems to be down. It's a long way for me to come if there will be little or no kiting cos I'm on a budget at the mo and thinking the money might be better spent on a Fiji trip mid winter.

Advice please WA wind gurus?

Hi Ezza,

You need only look at the Synoptic Situation on Friday and you'll see a large high down in the bight moving VERY slowly eastward. The winds travel anti-clockwise around the center of the high and also, due to the higher pressure than the surrounding air pressure then as it is heavier, it falls and spreads out thus adding a slightly outward vector to the already anti clockwise moving wind.

The closer the isobars, the greater pressure differential and thus the faster the air movement or in laymans terms, the stronger the wind.

Notice also the low pressure above the state off the coast of Exmouth, the rules of wind direction are opposite the High pressure, so between the high and the low, they are both funneling offshore wind into the Indian Ocean. The dashed line reaching down the coast is a trough. Troughs are generally created when seabreezes oppose the wind directed by the "system" air pressures. They cancel each other out and create an area of hot offshore winds in the morning stalemating the seabreeze allowing the land to get quite hot. Winds sometimes can go southerly for a brief period before switching back offshore again in the early evening.

Unless the high in the bight gets moving a little quicker, the prognosis for wind over the KS weekend isn't good. Hot, dry and gusty southeasterly winds with a slight chance of a southerly burst for an hour or two on Sunday.

But hey, that's just my interpretation of the Synoptics.

Cheers,

DM

Probably not a very good judge if this forum is anything to go by, you will probably be slammed for actually having some experience in the matter.

yup gero got to 40 inland then that lurrrvly still time and it came good powered session on a 13m, just kite on an easterly, lets face it the kiting at the event is less than average anyway so what does a little offshore wind make it? still average...specially after the recent dragon slaying antics......

Relax dude, it's just my interpretation of a synoptic weather chart. Meteorology isn't a perfect science and I'm not sayin that's what is gonna happen, just that that is what is likely to happen for the weekend of KS according to the chart and my understanding of Meteorology.

I didn't comment on todays weather in Gero. Notice the distance between the isobars on todays chart, much wider than on the weekend approaching which would have allowed the seabreeze to "Come in late at 17 knots".

The chart, nor my interpretation does not take into account local anomolies or phenomenon. I stand by my prediction unless the charts change. Not to cast doubt about your experience and certainly not wanting to put the wammy on KS, as a Sponsor and demoer, I have more at stake than the average punter, I want wind!

Same old Tony Mark, i still have to buy my kites so i can hang out with who ever i like
The reason for my change of maker is the performance of the kite not the price.
This years Rebel is AWESOME, thanks * AKS *
