Theres a sweet flat water spot (super flat) on the cocos and ive got 6 weeks to go fast - id like to know how fast and challenge myself. Any ideas?

anyone with experience of the wrist watch variety? or is the handheld in an aquapac the go?

All the serious windsurfers use the Locosys GT31. You can use a garmin but they aren't considered as accurate. Many windsurfing shops stock them.

You need an aquapac with a strap.

If you have more questions then there are loads of helpful people in here:

If you have a wristwatch one you should put it in an aquapac anyway. Wrists aren't the places for GPS's at speed.

The GT31 is reconised by speed freaks world wide as the most accurate and consistant. They are easy to use and have some great features.

What's great is you can up load your speeds onto the web site straight from the unit and compete with crew all over the world.

Let me know Mikey if you want one, we import and distribute them.

I've been enjoying mucking around and recording some times with regular twin tips and small quad surf boards, but I am finding if you want to go super fast your going to need a proper speed board.

Look forwad to a drag soon!

They used one of these at Alva. They come complete with police officer in uniform. Not sure of the price.

I got a GT-31 when I got my coarse board after speaking to a few poleys. They are really easy to use and have a fast refresh rate. Easy as to download your tracks etc.

Make sure you use a wetpack. They float and are waterproof but not enough to handle impacts with water.

Recently I clocked 24knts at Golden Beach in about 15-18knts of wind. I was using the North Course Race board. I thought the course board was going to be faster, It was actually quite hard to ride fast bearing of the wind. It is a hoot to ride and it goes up wind like nothing else ive ridden but its not going to get you to that magic 40knt mark.
I then took out a little Quad surf board on the same day and went faster I got 26knts. It was choppy as and quite hard work to get those speeds that day.

I have peaked at 30knts before here on the coast but that is it.

Its a tough call down here because when the winds cranking 25+ wich is what you need to go fast the surfs usually pumping so its a tough call to want start mucking around with electronic gadgets and twin tips! I normally can not be assed and I just want to go ride waves and get some air!

However when Im at a great flat water spot all I want to do is go fast! so im happy to spend all day blasting back and forth as fast as I can! and tinker with boards and stuff.

Me,Bretto and Lance all got speeds between 36 and 40knts up at a secret spot around Lizard Island. We were all on regular twin tips in pure glass water.

It was at a place only known to few as "spotX" or "Knobs Hard"(for obvious reasons!)

This place is a massive long sand bar that only shows up at super low tides. it is right in the path of the trade winds. The sand bar runs for a about 4km and wraps around slightly down wind at one end so you mack allong then peel off and bear away down wind at high speeds and still have the flatest water known to man!

That place Rocks! and I will be back there some time to go faster for sure!

You realy need a purpose built speed board to be able to sit around that 40knt++ mark. Surfboards and twin tips just dont hold on and it hurts when you trip a rail at anything over 30knts!!

So 40knts at "knobs hard" is my fastest time so far[}:)]

Luke

PS. If anyone can show and prove they can kite over 40knts I will give them a Free Mystic Matrix Thermo vest!!

Have fun trying!

Ok well Luke youve set the challenge down - nice one.

Ill drop in and get one soon.

the spot on teh cocos is pretty sweet - theres a weird seaweed the kind of looks like coral but is obviously soft - its covers and area of 3km by about 300m and when the tide is just above it, the waves are zero regardless of the wind. Its pretty sick cos you can ride in any direction and bear away progressively with your apparent wind changes. i think im gonna get the Underground speed board to play with. the adrenalin is pretty addictive. The spot is sick - and in six weeks i should get some smokin strong winds to test it all out.

you might as well hand over that vest with the gps - dahaha. Nah i dont want to jinx myself. hehehe.
