Apart from showing his weakness with the green whistle, the man had the balls to go out in 50+knot winds!
Hope you recover well!
Broke mine a few years back, and had to have a titanium plate inserted to keep my wrist together. A week in hospital and 6weeks off work!

Hope the guy is ok but....

Kiting in 50+ knots does not mean you have balls it's means you are stupid... Not sure it got that windy.

one of the safer beaches on the bay too.
the beach is a good 70 metres wide near the lifesaving club and the water is deep.

There were also two ambulances in one day at Altona. One guy apparently couldn't move his legs but I never heard anymore about it after that.

Hi all,
You will be glad to know that he is doing fine, wrist hasn't been fixed yet but he's still alive and home. Just shows that even been a doctor doesn't mean things happen straight away.
It may have been 35-40 at st kilda and thats about the average range at hampton but at the time it happened some massive squalls came through that were definately over 45 knots. two people stayed out during the whole front, both good riders on small kites (SHQ riders). there were a few 5-7m kites on the beach with people just standing on the cliff watching. The water had been driven to within about 10m of the bluestone that boarders the beach by the time he left. To give you an idea of the swell, james ditched his kite and went surfing while we waited for it to die down a bit. Hampton is an intermediate riders beach, especially on a westerly. Most people would struggle to get off the beach...
Awesome session had by all, post this event... minus the lack of whistle sharing ;)
Everyones been asking after you bro and wishing you well

If this was on the Friday I was riding off Brighton in the evening and there were a few gnarly fronts that passed to the south that would have gone through Hampton way. Was a good breeze but quite gusty at times.

Winter - it's not the average wind speed but the fronts that come through and can be quite localised - Just because it was 35-40 in St Kilda doesn't mean it was windier elsewhere. Driving back from Mordy there was a section of Beach Rd near Black Rock that was getting showers of salt spray from the waves breaking at the bottom of the cliff. I drive that road most days and haven't seen that before. Wouldn't surprise me is the wind was up around the 50 knot mark.
