Yeah, have driven a few. I fully understand what you mean about being blown around, but as you admitted, you have sacrificed your ability to drive on sand etc.
As for looking good, I agree there, they look great lowered a little and with real shiny chrome wheels. I still would want to be able to drive to my favorite camping sites...
that was the toss up....go for style or practicality. i figured, the hard to find nature of this car - being a lowlight dual cab...i didnt want to risk the rust again...its back to being a dry no rust car after lots of work.
i am now in the market for a camper, be it very basic so as i can pack up for the weekends again.
if anyone ever feels the need to donate me a kombi I can assure you that it will be greatly appreciated. As long as it runs and has wheels I am happy. All donations kindly accepted. I love them so so so much.

JaimieLee, will that really work??
Hmm, maybe I will try,
if anyone ever feels the need to donate a Ducatti, I can assure you that it will be greatly appreciated. Dont care if it runs or not, I can fix it, so long as it is all there!!
Not too sure if that will work though.
JamieLee, from my experience, dont get a Kombi unless you are prepared to maintain it, by the roadside, in the rain, without a torch... MMM the memories. If you are prepared to do that, then you will love one!
Or being stuck in France unable to put the van into reverse, you have to nosey park everywhere and get your girlfriend to push you out of the parking spot. I like to pretend I'm the pilot in an aeroplane and I'm being pushed back off the air bridge.
I love my van. Its getting Weber carbs put in it today. Glastonbury here I come!
Seriously Jaimie, they are a constant drain on your money and/or time. But you form a bond with them that makes them very hard to sell.
I have found it really stable to drive, though I understand that the high-roof versions come with an auto lane change feature that engages in high cross winds.

What happens when you have to fix your Van on the roadside:
Bigwavedude. make sure you post that pic hey. cheers. I want to know what kind of scooter it is that can fit wetty bar and lines pump and towel all under the seat. Do you have an extra small pump or something? Do many kinds of scooter have that much room. ps don't mind looking gay as i already wear a spring suit and gath regularly making me look like the blue power ranger.
350Z is perfect, can fit in Surfboard + Kiteboard +kites. Since we don't have wind in Sydney anymore the kite carrying ability does not matter too much.
Oh you poor folk have never driven a proper car have you. the biggest problem I find with my 100 series cruiser is" what speed to set the cruise contol to when in low range 4wd in soft sand".
I would vote it as the most boring 4wd in the bush. It wont slide or spin wheels when you want it to. Havent managed to get bogged yet.
I must admit you do need a big kite to drive it
sorry I left the helmet off in the avatar. Does this mean my secret identity is now known
even better go the l300 great van, easy to convert to a camper. lacks abit of power but 4wd works well and cheap on fuel.........
