I will be spending 5 days in exmouth this october.
I guess with a little luck there should be some good wind days...
my question is where to go for the perfect flatwater shallow lagoon?
doesnt need to be offshore glassy - just some shallow clear water .
Seek and you shall find...
It was blowing 20-25 knots this day...
I'll be up there soon, and it can't come soon enough!
yeah stick to sandy bay unless you want to brave the bombie/ north graveyards, last two years i hit it and had 2weeks of wind 20-25knots+ with on screaming 35! had good swell last year too bombie was mast and north graveyards was walling up for endless smacks.
Laurie must be adjusting the graphs to have the place to himself cos the winds in today and I have just knocked off. So do I drive down for some flat water at sandy bay or hit some waves at graveyards. graveyards I say. Oh did I also mention it's a balmy 30 degrees today[}:)]
Can have days of no wind - but even on easterlie hit the boat ramp east side. I've always had wind up there in october hols.
Mesa camp my fav.. that inside section is impeccable and graveyards on a decent swell. Sandy bay the water colour is unbelievable. Been 9 years though since I kites these places, miss em'.
Was there last year.
Whales
Dolphins
Turtles
S//tloads of fish
20knt flat water
That was one day !
It is heaven
Dude I nearly farqin cried...cheers big fella. My wife (where I met her, kind of) said that was mean!), Gods country man. Farq gotta get up there, but hitting bali this year for a surf trip. Next year to bali again with fam - what was I thinkin!
^^^ don't worry eppo it will still be here next year.
gota say Em captured Laurie at his best in this one
I remember doing 3, 3 hour sessions one day. Did the easterly on the boat ramp (or whatever you call it), hit graveyards for a 17-22 knot midday, then finished at sandy bay on 25 to 30, and got a picture just like that one (that is lost somewhere),
got back, wife (to be) was cooking up a some camp food and fell asleep within a 10 seconds on laying down. Was sore all over, wind burnt, sunburnt, ankles screaming, back shoulders on fire...and was the happiest man on the planet.
Damn you turtlehunter!
yep love the feeling kiting brings, trips like that can make or break a relationship but are remembered forever.
Especially back in the day when it felt like life or death at the launch.
By the way the boat ramp would be Bundegi.
I'm in coral bay at the moment. Turns out I hit Bundegi/Graveyards too early in the season and if the wind was in today it looks like i pulled up stumps and moved on too early too. Had fun trying to land a metre long cobia with light tackle in my kayak this afternoon. Almost makes up for the kiting I missed :)
Down in the NP does look sweet though, maybe next year
Hi Turtle,
I spent Tuesday night up there in Exmouth and fell in love with the place. Stone grill at the Pot shot was pretty good!
Didnt get to see much there as it was an overnight trip but should be back up there again soon enough.
Ill get intouch with you next time Im up that way to get a locals look of the area.
Probably wont be kiting as I had a knee recon 2 months ago but keen to go out and get some pics and help out. Theres always next year for kiting!
What are the best months to be up there in Exmouth?
Should be cranking up now Leeds and runs through to december most likely.
Sorry Laurie I was referring to the shot being over exposed
had a blast today on a reo in some onshore reef slop , thanks to turtlehunter for the demo, cant wait tomorow to get in some offshore waves though.
