[edited by GalahOnTheBay to fix the video link]
isnt ruben cool! was hoping he Djs on that pier before chucks red bull all over his face and jumps the pier. disappointed
Ouch - thanks for sharing
Hmm not sure why that video link does not work, but I can assure you it is well worth watching, especially the very last bit
Just fixed the video code so it say why it was blank (mystic marked as 'non-embed')
Yeah .. amazing jump .. good entertaining vid .. look forward to Part II where they show what happened at the end?!?!
You would wanna hope your sponsors are gonna give you compo if you were going to do that. If they did then let it rip haha.
Even though he was hamming it up, the body language and non-verbal cues were all wrong. I had the sense that he feels he has to prove a lot and prove it very quickly. Sadly this can only lead to massive pain.
Ruben, if you're reading this, step back and work on the bigger picture. If you can't make a living out of kiting in a way that doesn't involve compulsive risk-taking, perhaps its time to move on. You have enough talent and energy to succeed in all sorts of endeavors. Don't let a bit of redbull-fuelled ego put it all at risk.
I know you have a sense of humour about it, but remember too that many a word of truth was often spoke in jest.
Did someone upset ruben??
All I can see is: " The creator of this video has not given you permission to embed it on this domain. This is a Vimeo Plus feature."
Still working if you follow this...
bite + 1 haha
djoodojdojdojo when ur older will u have regrets about not living in fear of hurting urself?
Sad to see Ruben descending to this, but hey if it turns him on, then so be it.....
Ruben, the tone in your voice does not ooze the man we know and love. You are sensational, a pioneer, have more balls than most...but you are also a bright sensitive man with a lot to live for and there is a huge world beyond kite boarding which you can be part of. Maybe time for some reflection and perhaps learn something new.....but doing "stunts" like pier jumping is just not that cool IMO.
Take care....8 months is a long time to be off the water for anyone.
Ha Haa to all you Cotton wool kiters
I used to slide the front wheel of F1 motorbikes into sweeping corners at 120 miles an hour and exit on the rear ohh thats dangerous
Its called refined SKILL - that only the very talented possess....
Those who dont and never will have that REFINED skill will Always think it is pushing the limits too far - because they cannot do it themselves and it is always easier to 'bag' others while wrapped in cotton wool
Ruben if anyone hasnt noticed, has the skill to fly very high and far, youd have to be really really stupid not to think that he doesnt calculate speed-wind strength & timing before he jumps And it doesnt show how many aborted attempts he made before pulling the trigger...
I bet it was lots, just like bum moves edited out of everyones vids posted on here
He knows his gear, height, speed, distance, skill - like you know how to walk across a road !!!!
So I guess to make a little clip more exciting for you he put a bit of film 101 fear in the beginning ... then took the piss out of the bitches at the End
Fear means you should not drive a car, 400+ will die this year ???
I know hed be happy to die doin what he loves best - so would I
My perspective is a bit subtler than a cotton wool risk-averse generalisation.
The distinction I'd make is between:
1) Taking spectacular risks in a state of congruent clarity and confidence, driven by passion and skill, and
2)Taking spectacular risks out of an egoic desire to prove something, in a state of uncertainty and doubt, fuelled by ego and peer-pressure.
All great athletes who push the boundaries of what is possible have serious preparation rituals to ensure they're in a state of absolute readiness and clarity. The truly great ones also have the wisdom and balls to say, "not today," if they are in any way uncertain or unclear or have any trace of doubt.
Do the stuff that others perceive as crazy, but do it in a state that others recognise as extraordinary. Ruben, clowning or not, was not in such a state on the day in question.
Hmmmm - be careful people you might end up on his bitches list
Its his vid and the more negative / positive attention he gets - the bigger he becomes....
Rock On Cotton Bandits ha ha ha whatevaaa
ps. Tenberri,
watch all his ocean, lake and gorge river megaloops on utube, check out height/distance and then see if he really just guessed at it
He can make that jump with his eyes closed... but held onto his board just in case it fell off, do ya think
... all this talk is bloody hilarious!
Anyway, a bit left field now, could Ruben be that good that he could have made it look like a stuff up and cause this discussion??? Pump up ratings??? Hmmm, you never know??
Its definetly compelling and I liked it heaps!!!
Just a thought!!!
Explains why they dont show him actually hit the deck, its all a gee up . Well picked up Puetz . I want to see ruben jump over Dimitri,s house
He would be fine anyway, whats the worst case? he doesnt clear it and bounces off some concrete back into the water... I don't know if you have seen what it takes to put a skate part together, but some dudes hit concrete and walls countless times in order to just get one trick. For example, watch this vid, it shows you what it took for jerry to make his latest video part. Some of the other B-sides to this vid are also pretty crazy.
^^^ Ouch to both of those previous 2 clips
Just think what kind of damage you could do on a hard surface if you tried to jump over it with a kite and didn't make it.
Oh wait...
