The one thing that has always intrigued about kites and waves is the whole strapless thing. I mean I see the big draw card of a kite is massive air and this is basically rendered null and void when you ride strapless. In windsurfing smacking the lip and launching into a huge aerial is pretty much the holy grail of wave riding (as the pic with Polakow above demonstrates). Is this really difficult to do on a kite? Or its just not done? Not having a go, it's just always interested me.

hahahaha yes it what everyone doesnt understand "strapless waveriding" lol yes it is fun and yes it is a challenge and yes it is alot harder than smacking the lip with strap but........ can you use the one thing that the kite is actually good for? AERIALS..............no..........yes it makes little sense.
As for your question yes you can launch airs off the lip with some ease kitesurfing (with straps) tricks such as rodeo flips and the like are also possible (like windsurfing) but just require some practice.

p.s. that windsurfing vid posted above owns on kite waveriding so hard its not funny.

Anyone seen the trailer for Neil Pride Epic Maui Sessions? S'got polesurfing, surfing & kiting, and I tell you, the kiting blows. Watching this with all 3 together made the kiting look so lame.

It wasn't the best footage and the moves were pratty lame, but even so. Respect to the poleys getting nailed in mast high barrels.

I'll see if I can dig it out and get it on youtube.

What would be the holy grail of kiting?

Think we have an old video of Robbie Naish at pipeline inside the barrel, on a sailboard. Now that is amazing. However many feet of mast inside that beast. Think the movie was R.I.P. Good viewing.
