there must be a million old kites laying around in sheds, car ports, up in trees or lost at sea . i have a few around that are good for nothing but have served me well and feel that there should be a kite nirvana . have you ever sent a kite to the after life in flames or recycled it into something useful
look at you mr haircut in kite forum you are sooooooo a kiter and i'am restocking my pole gear, a week of wave riding at corro's and its all coming back to me, kite morning , sail all afternoon and party all night long , god bless Australia
i've turned my North Rhino2 (04) into shopping bags. Seeing plastic bags will all be banned soon, may as well start making some to keep in the car.
It's a fasionable green with a hexrib strut handle.
There was an article in one of the recent Kiteboarder mags with someone who was recycling old kites and turning them into bags.
I reckon the best project would be to use a couple of old kites and turn them into an inflatable beach shelter.
Some friends of mine are renovating a back shed at their holiday shack into dorms for visitors, we are thinking of using old kites to drape across the ceiling as a cool and themic decoration (and to hide the bits too hard to fix up there!).
Donations of kites gratefully accepted!
I think it was on kiteforum once, a link to a company in the US where you could send your old kites and for about $100 they make them into a trendy jacket or vest.
'Trendy' of course being open to interpretation, and myself being the anti-expert on 'trendy', I don't know if you'd wear them to Tiger Lils on a Friday night, but they looked alright to me.
Sjoukje Bredenkamp was wearing a dress made of old kites by some trendy Cape Town designer around the 2006 African Boat Show.
If your kite is left rigged up on the beach for any length of time (when waiting for the wind or all sizes rigged for when the wind is changeable) an old kite is good for sitting on top of the decent ones protecting them from the sun etc.
A big 16m preferably that most other kites will stack under.
I felt like turning my Naish X3 into DOG POO BAGS,
would have been a fitting ending.
I think some one with sewing skills could change a 16 - 20m kite into some sort of modern hybrid with out too much trouble by cutting the sides off and ataching some sort of simple bridle ??????
