Hey there!
Im a french girl fairly new to Sydney and all my friends here are into rock climbing (which is highly respectable i must confess but not enough water involved for my taste!) and im really starting to hear the ocean's calling and to feel the "grab-your-board!" part of my brain itching all over!
Im historically more of a surfer but i tasted kiteboarding and, well, as you all probably experienced it yourselves just irremediably became addicted!! so im still a beginner (spent a fair bit of time on a beach with a trainer kite and few hours in the water. i could get on the board both sides the last occasion i had to ride) but im really motivated!
I know i've missed the sweet summer sea breeze but please tell me there's still hope to get some nice sessions!
So basically if there is either a local interested in sharing the cost of a ride or another beginner interested in struggling with the winter winds or a good Samaritan to give me some advice, i'll go straight to a kite-shop, by some gear, and off we go!
let me know!
cheers
laure
Winter is harder kiting, but there are still plenty of options - particularly on Botany Bay. I would kite 2-3 days per week through winter - but you have to put up with gusty winds, cooler temperatures and sometimes rain. If that sounds like fun - can let you know some spots with each wind direction.
G'day Lor, I head up north to the entrance (fantastic winter spot) from sydney a fair bit for kiting. If you need a lift or a kite buddy drop me a line. Usually go weekdays to avoid crowds.
Le SydneyUni french/international kite crew te souhaite la bienvenue Laure!
Hope you got a good wetsuit cause it's like Normandie here now. Lucky for you, this week-end forecast is awesome! We'll definitely go make the most of it, and you're more than welcome to join :)
Au plaisir,
Antoine

Hi Laure,
Also check out NSWKBA KiteBuddies at:http://www.nswkba.com.au/forum/kitebuddies
You can also sign up on my mailing list for www.kitesurfing.com.au by sending me an email to list@kitesurfing.com.au.
I send out wind updates, weather forecasts, suggestions on kiting locations and other info regarding Sydney kiting on an irregular basis, as the conditions dictate!
SeaBreeze has a great Buy/Sell section for 2nd hand gear and there are a number of really good kite shops around Sydney where the service is excellent.
Just be extra-careful kiting in winter -- the wind can be extremely volatile, unpredictable and can shift from completely quiet to gale force in a matter of a minute at times.
Make sure you're out with experienced kiters, and if there's a strong wind forecast be safe and don't go out.
Cheers,
Rob
