Hey all, just started lessons and having trouble getting up on the board (zero prior boarding experience) and as I'm a visual person - does anyone have any link suggestions to basic instructional material I can look at? Cheers

Found this site: http://www.kiteboardingevolution.com/water-start.html
Others appreciated

Dreamer, a bigger board can help heaps, well it did for me. Same as you, I have no prior board experience, got up during lessons but couldn't get going on my kit that was recommended by the school for me in the local area. Then thought about surfing schools using large boards, and remembered that the school provided a significantly larger board for lessons.

Did some research about beginner board shapes and found my board ticked none of the features for beginners (large planning surface, mid to high rocker, soft forgiving rails, narrow tips) Actually while practicing behind a boat i found the rail has amazing grip. For $48 I made a solution that saw me go from not getting up to just riding off 2nd go. If you want details I can put some pics and instructions up, it's not for everyone but worked for me. It allows me to get up with less speed, which I can handle, continues to plane when I make a mistake with the kit and run out of power.

Gateman - the kitesurfing handbook link was awesome, think I'm getting my head around the theory. Just waiting on the wind to try it all out.

Harlie - any pics and instructions are truly welcome!! I know nothing about boards but think I was on a pretty big board for my size, so I think my problem is lack of skill rather than equipment. I haven't bought my gear yet, what board would you recommend?

Thanks for your comments!!

I was very proficient at wakeboarding before I got interested in kites and cant think of anything else which could have progressed my riding any quicker. In particular wake skating behind under powered tinnies and learning how to get up on good technique and not just brute force.
